I am teaching a beginner and an advanced seminar about Belgian beers next week, and I am using Orval in my presentation. I would like to illustrate just how influential this beer is to the brewers who brew Belgian-style ales in this country. For example, both Vinney from RR and Peter from NB state that Orval is their "favorite" beer (if you could have just one favorite  I know the logo is painted on the wall at Goose Island Brewpub Clybourn.

I am looking for other examples where this logo may be painted, and possibly pics if you have any, to include in my ppt. Thanks for looking!!

    Cheers!

do you really think Orval has left that many impressions on the walls of America? Seems like there might be better points to prove.

I've never seen it anywhere but if I ever got a tat it would be the Orval logo.

I find Orval logo kinda ugly. But the beer is great, so who cares right?

Yeah. The DB logo is not beautiful, but I like it for some reason.

Thanks for the input, all! I know Orval is not an Earth-shattering beer, but I do feel like it has a significant influence on some of this country's great brewers.

Couldn't agree more with you, Brewed, except where you seem to be saying that Orval isn't absolutely world-class.

I have a video podcast, and the very first episode I did was called "inspiration" where I tasted several beers that had been inspired by Orval alongside the original, all (roughly) equally aged to see how they compare. It was a lot of fun. In fact, I even revisited the idea in the last month, when I reviewed Rayon Vert, yet another Orval inspired beer.

Here's the episode at The Beer Temple
Just a note: Remember this was my VERY FIRST episode, so it's not my best work. That said, I think it's worth checking out for someone who want's to teach a class about that very subject.

    Cheers!

Awesome, quinnsi!! I can't wait to take a break from working on this presentation to watch that! And I definitely did not mean to imply that Orval is anything less than world-class. It is a cornerstone in the beer world. And it is this belief that has lead me to want to make such an example out of it for these students. But some folks don't see its importance in the craft beer world  Either way, I'm sticking with my original idea to try to illustrate what an impact it has had on world-class brewers such as Vinney and Peter. I appreciate your input, and I really look forward to viewing your work!

    Cheers!
