Hi, I am about to visit Ausable Chasm, close to Plattsburgh, New York. I am looking for a great place to have a nice selection of craft beers around that area. Can someone help me ?

    Cheers

I can't speak for Plattsburgh, but you could always take the ferry across the lake and hit up Bev Warehouse in Winooski

you will be 30 miles across the lake from Burlington, VT so I think you will find more info on here as opposed to the other suggested forum . no brainer to take port kent ferry across (the ride itself will be worth it). you will end up in the heart of downtown Burlington with a million restaurants with great beer selections . search this forum for more info about where to go and what to look for. if you take your car over you can drive to the beverage warehouse in winooski for the best selection of beers around . wouldn't need your car for anything else so could even leave it in NY and take a quick cheap cab.

I don't know a ton about Plattsburgh but from my limited experience and what I've heard I wouldn't even waste my time there. just head directly to Burlington from ausable chasm (which is a neat spot to visit). cheers and enjoy!

i went to school in p-burgh...and visit as often as I can
There isnt a ton of places in the burgh, but Richards Grocery has a selection, not great but its there and CHEAP! I did a review I think. There is a sunoco on rt3 on the way to the campus that has a "beer cave" but its not great. you may find a cheap 6-er though.
But bars are a bit different -
The monopole is awesome. Cheap pints of local stuff - and a nice selection. Geoffry's is awesome also...great selection - maybe 20 taps. There is also a new place that opened called the Good Life of something like that, it also has a good selection of taps and bottles - and good food from what I hear but I never ate there.

Also, yes Burlington would be worth it - especially for a night. Lots of Hill Farmstead on tap (check the burlington places page but I want to say the name is farmhouse grill). Maybe some lawsons or heady, and lots of others.
But a cab ride is NOT cheap to burlington. There are 2 ferries, 1 gets right into downtown burlington, so you could leave your car in NY with no problem, and not worry about a car; however the ferry hours stink and you may end up being stuck. The other ferry gets into VT about 45 mins from burlington. None leave right from plattsburgh...
Plattsburgh is a great little town..
also not beer related but go get a Zukes Sub on the corner of Brinkeroff and Couch. Get the zukes special on their house french bread - its amazing!

There is a port kent and a grand isle...I forget which one is which, but here is the web link
    http://www.ferries.com/
its a great ferry ride - especially this time of year and you can take your car on it (for a fee).

you could go south to Essex NY and take the ferry across to Charlotte vt (about 20 min south of Burlington). seems the whole trip would take about an hour and a half and would be well worth it. I think you'd even pass fiddlehead brewing in shelburne on your way up rt. 7 (meh, ok) and definitely magic hat (meh, blah).

ausable chasm, you are 15 minutes north of willsboro, ny. home of turtle island cafe. chef dave makes the best meals in upstate ny, bar none, and i personally designed the beer list there for him. its got delicious stuff from all over the world, some 40 selections right now. he isnt open on tues or weds, but other than than, its a must if you are in the area. totally local and delicious food. if u need to eat on tues or weds, go to living goods. its right on the main drag in downtown p-burgh, and has a pretty impressive beer list as well. let me know what you find.

Richard's is your best bet in town - nothing crazy, but the prices are great and they often mark beers down that have been sitting for a while - i walked out of there with 4 crocks of old crusty marked down to 3.99 each. Have also got 11.99 four packs of ten fidy there. Forget the beer cave at the Sunoco station off exit 36 - better selection, but highway fucking robbery - everything is marked up ($30 bitches brew - not kidding). I'll never buy anything from that place.

As others have said, if you have time take either the grand isle or essex ferry and head over to vermont.
