Not Malt Duck, Right Time or Zima or the many other flavored beers, 1960s-2000?

I'm pretty liberal when it comes to this subject. If it is made by a process resembling brewing, I'm good. Do some of the beers I see even make sense? Hell no. Some of the flavor combinations are or at least seem to be outlandish, then again, if I were short-term in that position, I would have missed out on some great beers, or pseudo beers, if you prefer. So in that sense, make what you want - nobody's twisting my arm to buy it.

Somehow I find myself able to appreciate a clean, tasty pilsner just as much as I like a stout laced up with adjuncts that meet my tastes.

Here's a question. If nobody experimented or took chances (some of which are at best flights of fancy) what beers would we be drinking today?

1] wine doesn't have grain or hops
    2] tequila doesn't have hops

Would you say that sourdough with rosemary and olives added isn't sourdough bread? No. Cuz it's still bread.

I'd be happier with wine and tequila spam posts than people complaining about nothing.

The line is a personal issue. I buy what I want . Craft beer is a unique entity . Brewers can & have done what they want. They are aware of their beer drinking audience. There may be a side note to your question. How many beers have been brewed ,dumped and never sold when the final product is not what they expected ?

Brown sugar of all varieties has been used since colonial times, and likely long, long before. Belgians made an art of the use of sugar for many, many years. Since marshmallows as you likely define them are a corn starch, gelatin, cane sugar, and artificial flavoring thing, and not the traditional confection that used the mallow plant commonly called the marsh mallow, all those ingredients have been used (arguably overused).

Here, sir, is my idea of an extreme beer.

" **** ale, popular in 17th and 18th-century England, was an ale whose recipe consisted of normal ale brewed inside a container, to which was later added a bag stuffed with a parboiled, skinned and gutted ****, and various fruits and spices."

I didn't have to go that far back for that, either, but history is littered with every single thing we have tried to eat being shoved into beer, for better or worse. If you want to be too extreme in beer, modern brewers, you're gonna hafta raise your game considerably.

So many possible responses and directions to go with this. I’m fairly traditional when It comes to beer preference. I only have 2 points.
    1) I buy what I like. The smoothie seltzer and pastry market gets none of my money.
    2) I make quite a few beer memes. I feel it’s my obligation to light-heartedly make fun of people who do.
    Cheers.

I do like to try all different styles, and for the most part, enjoy them. But inevitably, after a while I drift back to what I think of as "beer". Usually looking towards Germany.

When I visit a brewery, I'll drink any style as long as it doesn't have adjuncts. I love Imperial Stouts, but usually pass if they contain adjuncts.

I go to Germany specifically to drink well made and adjunct free beers. Man, they nail so many styles I dig, like Alt, Kölsch, Weiss/Weizenbock, Dopplebock, Rauch, etc.

    Y'all can keep your adjuncts!

Experimentation defines beer since humans discovered how to make it. Being extreme and experimental is being traditional. With this understanding, Reinheitsgebot can be seen as extreme and experimental

I hope experimentation never stops, and that brewers always try to find new ways to enjoy beer.

Reinheitsgebot is the line. It was crossed way before we thought beer was cool.

I have thought the same thing and the further I venture out into the craft beer, the further I want to venture. I have had fabulous sours. The gang in Austin, TX at Jester King are exactly those MAd ScIenTist's that brew exactly what you are talking about and they good and worth trying, drinking and sharing. Cheers! Try something new. Read the reviews. Keep an open mind.

Why not? That's what conversation is, folks talking about things they either like or dislike.

I do beer and tequila on the WBAYDN as do others with other "boilermakers" and such. But we include beer because we are about beer. When in doubt ask @Todd

Yeah, but just throwing a cake or pie into the brew kettle or mash tun isn't really too experimental, innovative, or ground breaking.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

In reference to the recipe here. So it’s basically created a beer and chicken stock hybrid? Tbh. And it sickens me....that could be some kind of strange michelada territory thing some people may enjoy haha

This right here is the point. i love sugar, I have a coke as my wake up drink, but even I am finding these modern beers unenjoyable. Just dump some cheap vodka into the sugary drank of your choosing, it'll save ya money.

It’s personal preference for me. Not only can I not afford a $16 four pack, I wouldn’t buy it anyways because I don’t care for and could not drink a huge marshmallow stout or triple ipa. This is the reason I’m so into traditional beer styles and imports. Because Germany has rules they follow, or used to follow and if it says it follows the reinheitsgebot then I know I’ll enjoy it because it doesn’t have other things in it. I keep it simple. I want to enjoy all 6-12 beers equally. Not be sick

sure there’s little deviation. But it’s the if it ain’t broke don’t fix it approach, just dial it in and perfect it and keep it simple
