To toss in a little historical perspective, the Belgians would actually agree with odd and unusual adjuncts as they've been crossing the line for hundreds of years.

It's the Germans who would be shaking a fist...

I recall left hand had a white Russian nitro stout at GABF 4 years ago.

I know it's likely a business decision. Again, my "thinking less" of them is really only temporary, as I know these folks have a business to run. And I guess there is a piece of me that "looks down on them," though I am embarrassed to admit that. I must work on doing a better job of not judging. At the same time, I personally am not a fan of what I see when I go to breweries and bottle shops (walls of cans with cool and eye-catching art, that rarely contain beer that sounds appealing), so the occasional venting is to be expected.

And to be fair, I am just growing jaded to these sorts of discussions because they take place in inappropriate places. There was a recent thread that had nothing to do with NE IPAs, but quickly turned into a NE IPA hate thread. Not to say this thread was an inappropriate place - perhaps we need an annual Venting Thread. People can submit their quarterly, "I hate NE IPAs" post and we can all move on to talk about beer.

It's easy to judge. Coffee snobs get a bad rep for judging people for putting creamer in their coffee. Craft beer advocates have their own judgmental tendencies. If you're aware of your own bias against other, than that's a promising start to overcoming it. Unfortunately, I fell into both of those snobbery camps for a time. Now I don't give a damn how someone else drinks their coffee or their beer, especially since that decision doesn't effect me.

P.S. Eat your BBQ with sauce if you want too.

I don't think "Craft Beer" or "Beer" in general needs to have a line.

But I have a line. And it stops somewhere around lactose IPA's and hard seltzers.

If they can't find up another word, maybe beer will do?

I agree I don't think you can draw a line for these things. Let the sour and pastry stout connoisseur have their fun. Beer is an evolution we should recognize as much as we should appreciate the traditions of the original recipes.

off topic but I made a drink years ago called a fat Russian which was kalhua, whipped cream vodka and heavy cream. The curdle the cream did made u have to choke it down.

I here ya! While my favorite beer style is not an IPA, I do drink them. There was a time that I would not even touch one because I did not think of it as beer. I am drinking one right now and thoroughly enjoying it.

We used to get drunk kids in college to do "cement mixers". You put a shot of Citron in your mouth and add heavy cream after and swish. We told everyone it tastes like a Creamsicle, but it would curdle the cream and turn into "cement".
