Our local Home Depot sells Jack Daniels barrels that smell like they just were emptied the day before of liquor. Seriously. Some are cut in half and sold for about $50 a half, but I've seen them for $100.

Cascade sells theirs off every so often. Usually $20ish each, pick up only at the brewery.

Founders will. I think it's $55. Still haven't bit the bullet on that one.

When you call the breweries to ask about that who are you supposed to even ask to speak too about this?

Keep checking your local breweries' facebook and twitter pages. Whenever Westbrook has barrels for sale, they post about it.

All the suggestions above that don't involve having a barrel shipped to you are the ones that you should pay most attention to. My best advice is to start with any local distilleries, as they are likely to sell cheapest and most often, wineries next (not sure how many there are in Pa., though), and finally breweries.

Fremont Brewing in Seattle sells barrels for $40 or $50 whenever they're done with them.
