I am going to Portland tomorrow for my first ever visit. I'm staying downtown and would like to know if there are any bottle shops or liquor stores downtown where I can buy bottles/cans of beer to bring back with me. I looked into it but it seems most of them are not downtown. I'll mostly be walking, so I'm not planning to go too far, which is why I'm asking about downtown options (I'll be going East a bit to Cascade, Commons, etc. but have plans immediately afterward and can't take beer with me). I've heard the selection is usually pretty good at regular ol' liquor stores, but any specifics will be helpful. Many thanks!
Whole Foods in the Pearl and Bailey's Taproom are probably your best bet for bottles downtown. Bailey's it worth hitting for their draft selection as well. Also, keep in mind that you will have easy access to any part of town via public transit. I'd recommend taking the #4 bus to The Beermongers.
FWIW, Portland is pretty compact. You can get an Uber from downtown to just about any of the places in the Visiting Portland thread for under $10. You could also buy a 2 hour bus pass for $2.50 and get to several cool spots in less than 30 minutes.
Yes--thanks. I will be taking the bus a bit. But I have a really packed schedule so if I can grab beer to-go near my hotel, that would be ideal. Thanks you!
I haven't been in a few years, but last time I was there, Pearl Specialty Market had a pretty good selection. I also can't disagree with the Pearl Whole Foods & Bailey's recos. Still, I'd recommend hitting one of the shops in the Visiting PDX thread if you can pull it off.
I only checked out Pearl Specialty Market once but everything seemed to be marked up quite a bit, I remember seeing Parabola for $20+ after I just picked up a few bottles for $15 elsewhere.
