I will be heading to Macon, GA in October. Anyone have a favorite shop they would be willing to let me know about? I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers!

Keith-a-Que has awesome barbeque. Get the smoked half chicken- its fant-freaking-tastic. No idea on Macon's beer scene.

Hey, I can help with that!

Lazy Dog Growler just opened downtown with 65 taps and they can serve pints as well as fill growlers. Rookery has 10 taps of all craft and the best burgers around. Margaritas in Mercer Village has a decent number of taps (40ish?) that are mostly craft. Best bottle shops are going to be Carriage Hills / Growler Spot (separate stores, but owned by the same guy and right next to each other), Lazy Dog Growler and WineStyles. Let me know if there's anything specific you're looking for.

I was in Growler Spot a couple days ago and they had Burnt Hickory and Orpheus on tap. Lazy Dog has pints of Lost Abbey 10 Commandments for $5.

The law that allows growler stores to sell pints is brand new and the Lazy Dog downtown is the first store to get their license. Growler Spot is still growlers and bottles only.

I'll vouch for the Rookery. Great food and solid dedication to craft beer. Awesome milkshakes, too, if you're into that sort of thing.

Nu-Way is something everyone should experience at least once. And while it may not be the best BBQ for everyone's tastes, I still fancy Old Clinton BBQ between Macon and Gray, on the Gray Highway. Seriously old school, leaning toward the vinegary Carolina style. Amazing homemade cakes, too. Used to love going here back when I lived in Milledgeville.
