Hello south Atlantic BeerAdvocates. I'm going to be visiting Orlando next weekend for a school event at Disney, however, I will have an extra Saturday to spend there. My friend has a car and planning on going to Universal Studios. I am looking for a beer place that is relatively close to that proximity. Brewery or bar, doesn't matter, but due to time constraints, I probably only have time for one or two places max. Any suggestions? Thanks, David
There is a world of beer less than 2 miles from universal studios and about 5 miles from downtown Disney, In dr Phillips. Or if you want to go for a 30-45 minute ride to a not great area there is always red light red light. Other than that,
Orlando Brewing has a decent selection of Organic brews and a tasting room. West side of Downtown Orlando http://www.orlandobrewing.com/ One of the better bottle stores in that area if you want to take out some singles http://www.knightlyspirits.com/comp...40-stores/48-knightly-spirits-at-williamsburg
I will be in orlando as well for a school event. Thinking of taking a trip to tampa one of the days im there also.
For bars, Red Light Red Light is great! Oblivion is another option 2 miles away from Red Light. As to where to purchase beers, Knightly on OBT. By the way Red Light's new location (2 miles away from the previous location) is on a good area, not sure why Lare453 said it wasn't. The last location was across a Roxy's and I can see how that can be classified as a bad area. If you do decide to go to Red Light, send me a bm and I can tell you the best way to get there so you dont have to deal with the traffic on East Colonial Drive.
If you are going to be near Universal, less than a mile away is the World of Beer in Dr. Philips. 52 taps of craft and lots of bottles.
Pretty sure Leon was a tasting room release only, so no. You'll find CCB in various locations in the city both on tap and on sale. Cigar City's rep Lucas for Orlando actually does a Facebook page for Central Florida which he keeps pretty up to date on tap takeover's, special dinners and other stuff if you're looking to try and get lucky and taste something outside the normal fair like Jai Alai or Maduro.
Redlight is definitely the place to stop at. I'd say take the trip and hit up Tampa though. Only an hour 1/2 away. Not a bad trip. Have fun.
im staying in lake buena vista. google maps says 67 miles to ccb brewery. just got to hotel. guess Ill head out that way and see what they got. website says they open till late tonight.
just got back from ccb. was pretty awesome. great people there, very friendly. They had a ton of imperial sweet stout left. also white oak jai alai.
Went to knightly spirits. they do have a great selections. Picked up a couple fruets from the bruery. Also some imperial biscotti break.
World of Beer is a great concept, best selection of any bar in Orlando for a true beer lover. Best to pay cash and avoid using debit or credit as there seems to be a problem with customers having there cards compromised after frequenting this place. Always check your bill and compare it to the menu so you are not charged a few extra dollars per beer. Servers are knowledgeable and the majority are good folk, just remember, buyer beware.
