Going October 5th and 6th. Looking for great craft I can't get near philly. Riverwalk/airport area preferred
Specs on Rector has a small selection which is close to the airport. If you are going to be in downtown, there are several places to eat and drink. One of my favorit places is The Esquire, really old school speakeasy type joint with great eats and cocktails with a good selection of local craft beers. If you want to venture out a little bit, you can go to Gabriel's Liquor on 1604 but its a ways out of the downtown area. There is also TotalWine here on San Pedro and 410, which is right down the highway, about 2 exits before the airport. Cheers.
You could also check out the Freetail Brewing taproom which is right out of downtown. I believe they are open until 9pm.
Freetail's tasting room south of downtown is well worth a visit but is only open Thurs/Fri/Sat. Esquire has about 10 taps. You will need to leave the tourist section of the Riverwalk to find more. Weather should be great for walking or using the bike share. Filling Station is a short walk south from downtown - IPA heavy tap list and plastic cups but very laid back vibe. Big Hops and GS1221 are north of downtown with a nice walk along the Riverwalk - both have about 30 taps. Keep going north along the river to the Pearl for house made brews at Southerleigh and The Granary - both are full service restaurants. Friendly Spot is further south past Filling Station. 70 taps - watch the pricing. Further south is Stella Public House in the Blue Star Arts complex. 20 taps or so. I find there list to be pretty ho hum usually but YMMV. The Cove and Taps y Tapas are close by in an area just outside of downtown - short cab ride or healthy walk. The back bar at The Cove has 30+ taps of all TX beers but suffers from the all too common in SA plastic cup. I don't frequent the airport area but Big Hops location there is your best bet.
I'll be there same time ..well oct 4-6 for a conference. Also staying in riverwalk/convention center area. Is the free tail brewpub worth a stop?
I know you said downtown but a little north from the airport, 281/1604. Hoppy Monk has 30+ on tap and wide selection. They have Yellow Rose most of the time too!
Also, others will disagree but I have always liked The Friendly Spot. But it is true, ask the price of a beer before you buy. There are some beers they will fuck you on. So don't feel bad saying "nevermind" I will have something else.
Has anyone been to the Alamo Beer tasting room on Lamar? Notice every once in a while they might have live music.
I haven't been yet, but I've been wanting to go. I have to say, I haven't been "impressed" with their beers yet, but they are still solid brews that hold their own.
