I don't have a huge collection right now, or a separate beer fridge but would like to keep a few bottles around for awhile. My options are our normal kitchen refrigerator at 38 degrees or inside the house in a dark cabinet or closet. The house generally stays mid 60's to low 70's, I know neither temp is ideal but which would be the better of the two?

If you're planning on continuing to add, then you will eventually run out of room in the kitchen fridge...assuming you also eat food from time to time...so that leaves cabinet/closet.

I think stable temps in the 60s wouldn't be the worst. As you said...certainly not ideal, but...

Yeah, the temps are stable we have A/C but certainly dont keep our house at the recommended beer storage temps haha. Im planning on getting a beer fridge for the garage, just trying to figure out whats best for now.

My 2 cents...Light is your enemy. Keep bottles dark and you are halfway there. Next is as you has said, temperature stability. After that, keeping that stable temp. nice and cool. If I could only choose 1 of the 3, I would say keeping beer dark is the single biggest thing.

I just keep beer in boxes in my closet. It's between 65 and 70 all year long. Boxes keep the light out. It's the best I can do.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. Alot of the beers I have set aside are individually boxed already so i guess that helps with the light too.

Or option #3: go to Craigslist and find an old fridge for cheap, then get a temperature regulator, which can also be found on CL for cheap. This will solve your issues and it's not expensive. My opinion is, if you can spend good money on beer, why not spend a little money to give it the best possible chance to age well.
