26 here! Though I've been drinking craft since as long as I've been drinking. Thanks Dad! An early purchase that comes to mind was buying a couple of 4 packs of Maudite and La Fin Du Monde on my way back from a Montreal Road Trip when I was 17. Man, the guys in my freshmen dorm didn't know what to make of those foil topped bottles.

I agree that the younger folk are blowing things up in craft beer right now, but I also feel like the younger BAs are largely responsible for the ridiculous hype game that needs to be played. The social media aspect of it to me seems like a lot of people raised in our generation of "look at how many I drank, and how rare they were, and everyone cares about my life all the time always" and I feel that becomes detrimental. I like the attitude of some of the older BAs who have been drinking long enough to know that the hype isn't always good and drinking what you love instead of trying to tick everything is a zen drinking attitude. I am incredibly happy to have so many people my own age drinking fantastic stuff though, I guess I'm just old at heart for 24 years old. I understand the irony of my dislike for the social media aspect and posting this on beer advocate, and decided I don't care. lol

Don't go generalizing -- my friends and I are 45-plus and we've been microbrew drinkers for almost 20 years now (I've been drinking micros longer than most of them, but my track record doesn't tip the average).

I probably had my first Anchor Steam when you were two. :grinning:

26 here, started drinking craft when I was 21 (started drinking beer generally when I was 21, too... that worked out pretty nicely).

If it weren't for a phenomenal beer bar next to my building, I don't know that I would have made it through grad school... so I really dove into the deep end when I was 22.

im in a similar boat, i mean i do hunt for specialty releases but not to the same extent as some, but then again I see middle aged people following trucks as well as young people, in fact more I think. I definitely follow the whole social media thing, especially with my local store/craft beer bar.

I'm the same way. I cant comprehend people standing in line for hours just for a chance to buy a limited release beer, or spending $30 on a bottle because it has been fermented with brett 6 times in 12 kinds of barrels for 5 years. Usually when I see a big event with Pliny/KBS/etc I'll stay away, because I hate crowded bars. Social media is exploding craft beer, and simultaneously making it unbearable. I'm hoping a balance is struck in the next few years.

Definitely, I think my 60 year old uncle in law seeks out more rarities than I do, then again that's a monetary issue most likely. I think the social media is helpful for following your local stores and everything, I'm just personally adverse to most of it. I don't have facebook or anything so if people post releases on there I pretty much just miss them and hope lady luck is on my side next time. Either way, I won't try to pigeonhole whipper snappers or the elderly into who buys more what. I like that there's a wide array on both sides, young and old whalers and young and old....non whalers? no idea a term for what I'm thinking.

I'm 22 going on 23 in May, and I've been drinking craft since about 16 or so, when my friends and I had someone buy us beer and they came back with a 12 pack of Fat Tire, we all pretty much started drinking craft from then on, whenever we could.
