First batch, or more recent? It was a disgusting Summit Hops bomb when first released; but is quite good now.

Elite beers? For me Fydor's Classic 2014 series.

Had it over this last summer, just tasted like pine resin to me and super sweet.

Interesting. I avoided it for years, heard they had changed the recipe and now I love it.

Jai Alai is pretty inconsistent batch-to-batch, though -- at least by the time it hits NYC. I've had several cans that were basically drainpours, but more it is usually a reliable favorite for me.

I think PtE is exceeds-expectations when fresh, and a pretty big let down when not (only due to the heights of the expectations).

I would echo all of the anti-Double Hoppiness in here, but only had my first after spending A LOT of time reading the various GF-ALPINE-ISNT-ALPINE threads on here, so I wasn't expecting too much.

    My biggest let downs:
Julius and Alter Ego -- was expecting something completely different from these beers, and just skewed a little too malty/creamy for my taste. Definitely unbelievable brews, I'd just put these pretty far down on my list of hoppy favorites.
Epiphany -- don't really understand the hype

Im going to make some people mad here but Ten Fidy. I poured the second one i opened into the sink and still have the other two cans in my fridge over 2 weeks later. The alcohol was so upfront.. it tasted its best when warm.

It didnt live up to the hype for me.

This was the beer that actually sparked this post for me. All be it an amazing beer, I thought it was just a sweeter, maltier version of SOS. I was expecting to be blown back by this one, but I just don't get the hype.

Along the same vein, Green Diamonds fresh was so delicious, but fell off so fast (2-3 weeks?). It was reduced to a boozy malt beverage. I normally don't keep my IPAs that long, but for a beer to drop dead in that short a time span was disappointing to say the least...

Everything since then has been great. They replaced every single infected bottle with a non infected delicous one if you emailed them.

@MartzMimic The one I had was a 2015. It is either not for me or could've been a contaminated bottle.

Very Mad Cow was infected, and BA Gonzo was not sealed properly, so it was flat. Those were 2 huge disappointments, especially the Gonzo, because I bought it at bar price ($30) at last year's Black Friday event at Max's Tap House, and I could have spent it on something else.

I recently did a small bottle share, and I brought 4 Hands Madagascar, which I had received via trade for Vanilla Rye. I thought it was a fine beer, but nowhere near the class of VR. It was somewhat thin and didn't have overly much flavor. It was by far the worst of the 4 beers I had that night.

CBS (runs before the lynch mob comes) I have wanted to try this beer ever since I got into craft beer. I finally got the chance to try it on tap last month and I think the hype was far greater than the beer.

I was really underwhelmed by Sculpin, fresh on tap and from a can. Tried it a few times but just don't get it. Same thing with Speedway Stout, had it on tap and keep trying a bottle every so often but really don't see why it's so highly rated.

Biggest letdown though was Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel Brandy barrel aged. My favourite beer and I love brandy and it was just nowhere near as good as the standard.

Stone Smoked Porter with Chipotle. Not enough flavor in my opinion

    A few come to mind:
-Pliny the Elder. I thought it was great, but the hype leading up was just too much.
-Mastermind. Another beer where the hype set me up for a let down, and another beer I liked.
-Grapefruit Sculpin. This was a major let down. I didn't dislike it per se, it's extremely drinkable but there is something sort of off about it--almost a koolaid-like quality.
