I would say you're better off going with a scotch or bourbon that was bottled in the year of his birth. A couple of bottles of beer last, what? a couple of hours? Pfft. Nothing special there and anything of note that you're going to age for 21 years is going to be far more for yourself with this silly justification of giving it to him.

A bottle of spirits will last far longer. Could very well carry over to their wedding day.

Besides, what if they *gasp* have no appreciation or even give a fuck about craft beer at that age. I know I didn't give a shit if it was a barrel aged, very limited release whale. I just reached over for the cheapest drink that was going to get me fucked up the fastest when I was 21.

Eurgh. My first and last Budweiser was one my mum got me for christmas. It was so disgusting it went down the sink after 5 minutes sipping. It would have been so much better if it had been something half decent. You can still mix good beer and good time/sentimental shit.

"Happy birthday son, let's start you off with a beer that's 100% gimmick. Brewed with pretty little skill purely to get a beer that's the highest abv beer you can get. Never mind that no brewers have made beer that strong before for a reason."

I probably would be kinda ticked off if one of my parents gave me a 21 year old growler to drink. "Thanks, now I know I don't like beer!" :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Utopias is the only beer that will be drinkable after 16 years. Personally I would pick a gueuze or lambic of some sort.

I would say its all about exposure. I imagine if your pops was drinking SNPA, and other craft when you were growing up you would be more appreciative of a whale on your 21st. I don't have a child, but I will more than likely do the same with some good beers.

This is seriously no better or different than those mothers who force their kids into beauty pageants. It's a nice thought but perhaps you're better off starting a 401k for them. Hell, if you start an IRA for them by that age, they'll be retiring millionaires.

But nah, man. gotta give them some oxidized whales, brah. So that you can tell them about the days before the second craft beer bubble bursted and how amazing this Barrel Aged cheap ass beer was fresh while they attempt to taste this swill. Perhaps you could also get them some Panda express to spread that remaining soy sauce on top of.
