It looks like an imperial stout.

Of course. Why not? Four was amazing and I still have 2 I need to drink up.

They call it a "double stout".

I am not sold on Darkness, personally, except for trade value.

Four on the other hand...you better be careful before I hunt you down. That beer was beyond amazing.

I'm a bit partial to Bell's and Duck Rabbit. I've yet to be disappointed by any beers from Duck Rabbit...and Bell's...well...it's Bell's.

My favorite 3 stout brewers are:
    TOPPLING GOLIATH
    TOPPLING GOLIATH
    TOPPLING GOLIATH

With an honorable mention to Toppling Goliath:slight_smile:

Don't forget about Obsidian. That stuff is heavenly as well.

Surprised no one has mentioned The Bruery in this thread. Ah, the inevitable epic fall from the graces of hype. Poor Black Tuesday, all the way down to #19 in stouts.

There is a lot of weird disagreement considering no criteria have been set. So I'll explain mine: first, I'm interpreting the question not as "best stout" but "most capable of making stouts"<--particularly in plural; second, variants of the same thing don't really count. That pretty much rules out Great Divide and Hopping Frog--there is not a lot of evidence that they can make a variety of stouts and among the variants many are just not that great (and in B.O.R.I.S. case, some are just plain bad). Don't know much about CCB, but among what I have not had, I'd put Toppling Goliath first, by reputation and variety alone. Skipping those, I'd pick Avery, Founders and Clown Shoes as top three (with Clown Shoes as #3). That's about as far as I'm willing to draw the line.

Amen. And as far a stout goes, I also consider that somewhat 'sessionable.' A great 6 pack buy
