Which brewery makes the best stouts?

    Do you have a personal favorite? I’d like to get my hands on some of their beer, but not sure which to go for.

    I agree with several of the names mentioned above, but I will add that my single best stout-drinking experience was at Modern Times brewery within walking distance from my hotel in San Diego where they had a few different barrel aged stouts on tap that were not available as cans or bottles. Nothing like a whole flight of barrel aged with one or two other stouts thrown in for comparison.

    I'll throw in one a little more local to me, Voodoo. Black Magick and Big Black Voodoo Daddy are stellar, as are the various barrel aged iterations of each.

    My favorite Ellison bba stout is Hazelnut. Not so much because of the hazelnut but because it has a lot of milk chocolate going on in it.

    But take whatever you can get. All of Ellison's bba stout are highly rated for very good reason.

    Chelsea Brewing in NYC used to make great stouts.
