We're entering a BJCP competition with some untraditional beers. Just want to know what category you guys think we should enter..
    Mango Aloe Pale Ale
Coquito Pale Ale (coconut, spices, rum)
    Blueberry Chocolate Porter
    Peach IPA

    Thank you

    These would go into:
    20 fruit beers
    21 Spice herb veg
    23 specialty

Read the guidelines carefully. Taste the beers and think about how it fits the guidelines.
    The coquito might be 23.
The peach IPA would be 20.

The others have more going on. You are normally limited to 1 per sub category. So it gets tricky on where to enter the other 2 without getting dinged for being out of style.

Assuming the ingredients in the names are noticeable in the beers...

Category 23, Specialty Beer, because it has both fruit and vegetable.

Category 23, Specialty Beer, because it has both fruit and spices.

Category 23, Specialty Beer, if the Chocolate is notieceable above a normal chocolatiness for a base porter. If not, then Category 20, Fruit Beer.

    Category 20, Fruit Beer.

But if we are only allowed 1 per sub category then what?

Then I guess you could enter them in categories in which they either won't score well (getting dinged for being out of style) or get lucky with judges missing the flavors that don't belong.

You could enter the extras into other competitions if you want feedback on those beers.

Let us say 3 beers fit in cat. 23. Taste them, choose the one you think will do the best, and enter it.

Assuming "we" means two or more people, you can enter two and your brewing partner can enter two...

I guess that's happened.. We've won silver for a Raspberry IPA in the IPA category.
