The new rhyzomes are hitting shelves soon, which varietals are you getting? I've got Chinooks from last year. After talking to the guys @ the LHBS, sounds like the traditional aroma hops are being ripped out for high alpha hops, so I will be getting Saaz and Goldings, maybe Fuggles, something for Saisons, ESBs, Belgians, Pils, etc since the high alpha American varieties should still be in abundance commercially. Wondering what you've already got, and what your getting next. Prost!

2x each of Cascade and Nugget, 1x Mt. Hood from last year (2nd year of each), and getting two Centennials to replace the Mt. Hood that didn't grow last year. All five of my hop plants from last year have already broken through the surface and are growing up the trellising already!

I'm gonna grow me some Summit and plant them right next to my onions and garlic. Yumm.

Just kidding. Though I would love to one day begin growing hops like Amarillo, Simcoe, Citra, Horizon, Summit, Chinook, Centennial, and Columbus for my homebrewed IPAs. But for now, I'm an indoor grower and hops don't really work for me indoors.

Where have you seen Summit? Was I wrongly under the impression that it was a proprietary hop, like Simcoe or Amarillo?

Summit are trademarked, and have not been available before. So the tradmark has run out (I don't think so, someone correct me if you know), or the demand has gone way down. CTZ are trademarked, but becoem available a few years back.

    Link to prove it.

This will be my first time planting hops, I'll be growing Cascades. I live in an agricultural area already but in the last three years area devoted to hops has grown by infinity%

I will be adding Centennials, Chinook, Cascade and Zeus to my already sprouting Centennials from last year. I am building a trellis with 2 4x4s 24 feet apart, a guy wire with turnbuckles to tighten. I am planting the hops 17 feet away and have them climb sisal twine on a 45 degree angle Upwards for a total of 20 ft for growing. Not fully constructed yet but I hope to hell it works as planned.

    Hallertau, Cascade, and Nugget..

I've heard the Hallertau doesn't grow well in this region, I suppose we shall see.

I have thought about it. Never grown them before though. Is any one hop that is easier to grow to get the hang of it?

Cascade does well in most of the USA. You will have to see if you can get it to grow in Florida, as you are south of the range hops like. About 35 to 55th parallel is the usual range quoted.

After seeing what Fresh Hops is selling for this year's crop, I am looking at getting Hallertauer, Kent Goldings, Saaz, ans Tettnanger or Spalt Select. I should have room for 5 - 6 varieties total, but I'll have to keep on them once they start to spread since I will be putting them into 2 - 2'X12'X2' planters, one of each. I'm also hoping that some of the guys in the club will have rhyzomes of the varieties I want so I can snag em for free, and know that they are varieties that do well in my area (as well as have someone to call for trouble shooting about that particular variety). Hoping that I can grow all the hops I will need for my all EKG ESB house beer, lots of Saisons, a Pilsner or two, and a few Belgains.

I pre-ordered Centennial, Cascade, Northern Brewer, Golding and Nugget...A buddy of mine grows Centennial and Cascade, so I know those two will grow well here...We'll see about the others!

For people who have existing plants, how do you prepare for the new season? I planted a Cascade rhizome last year and it did well, but I'm hoping to get a much better yield from this second year. Any tips?
