I would have to think spreading it out with a couple every day would have to better than drinking them all on the weekend. I just use the have as many as I want whenever I damn well feel like it method.

Define better. Better as healthier for you, more fun? All I know is averaging over 14 drinks per week labels you as an alcoholic. Contact your doctor for more detailed information.

Not to be a Negative Nancy but lower, conservative estimates puts that at 20-25% of your weekly caloric intake. I suppose if you walked 6 miles a day, this could work out.

If we can agree on using the terms used by the CDC:
Heavy drinking is 15 or more drinks (5%ABV, 12oz) per week for men.
Alcohol abuse is a pattern of drinking that results in harm to one’s health, interpersonal relationships, or ability to work.
Dependency on alcohol, also known as alcohol addiction and alcoholism, is a chronic disease. The signs and symptoms of alcohol dependence include—
    • A strong craving for alcohol.
    • Continued use despite repeated physical, psychological, or interpersonal problems.
    • The inability to limit drinking.
So, the OP's quantity would be heavy drinking. Whether it was alcohol abuse or alcoholism depends on how it affect you and your behavior.

I thought moderate alcohol consumption was supposed to be good for you? Two a day seems pretty moderate. That adds up to 14 a week. So if you cross the line and have a 15th that's where alcoholism sets in? Sounds like the kind of idiocy someone would come up with.

Three per day, top off with Jäger or bourbon on the weekend. Easy!

And the gubmint defines "binge drinking" as five or more drinks in one session, so I tend to take their guidelines with a salt-lick.

Not that I care in any way what the government guidelines are on this, I just marvel at the arbitrary stupidity of the shit they come up with.

I think the bigger problem we now have is apparently your wife is cheating on you, pretending to be both unmarried and my girlfriend.

Literally what he said. But honestly I would go f***ing insane if I could only drink 21 beers per week. Life is to short to put a limit on experiencing great brews.

I try not to drink anything weekdays and limit it to 2 or 3 a day Friday, Sat and Sun. There are exceptions, of course. Works for me.

I love how the criteria for everything changes every five years, and then there's a new "crisis".

"A new government report released yesterday shows that obesity among Americans has increased dramatically in the last five years. This news has health-care practitioners worried, and predictions are that..." when we're at the same level of fat-assery that we've always been at.

OT: Think I'll have another beer.

"They" (CDC, NIH) use quantity in the definition of moderate drinking (1-2 drinks in a day, but not cumulative for the week; IOW, they do not consider 2 drinks EVERY day to be moderate drinking. In terms of what society at large in the USA consumes, they are probably right. That is obviously not "moderate" for members here) and heavy drinking (15 or more drinks per week for men).

The other "levels" (binge, abuse, and especially alcoholism) are actually defined by their effect on the person, with quantity used basically as an example.

"Binge" is defined as, fundamentally, drinking until you are too drunk to legally drive. Personally, I do not like the term "binge" as used here. To me, this is just "legally drunk". The negative connotation of the word "binge" (Webster defines the word as "an unrestrained and often excessive indulgence") to describe merely needing a designated driver (assuming you are even planning on driving) is not proper, IMO, and is probably intentional to attach the negative. I assoicate "binge drinking" as a drunken party, well in excess of 0.08% BAC.

While drinking 21 beers over the weekend sounds like fun I feel like I would regret it in more ways than one. My physical activities would be shot, as would any other responsibilities I had. Plus, I would have to go the rest of the week without beer and I like to savor them. 3 beers a day is actually what I allow myself. One or two depending on if it is something like a tripel or a RIS.

I don't disagree. But there is a vast gulf between what medical professionals "recommend" and actual consumption practices shared by many many BAs on this site.

Frankly, it's personal as far as I'm concerned. I've never understood why so many BAs use this site to ask about "good" or "acceptable" drinking habits. (And to be clear, I'm not singling out the OP or even criticizing him.) But it is personal, and I'm not sure it's ever a good idea to ask other people in this what is and is not appropriate or acceptable. Everyone has a different standard.

If it's a question about health or excessive drinking, that's really a question for a doctor or other licensed professional (i.e. counselor). If it's a matter of appreciating beer at its fullest, I suppose I could understand asking BA.

At the same time, I ask myself the very same questions, so I feel like a bit of a hypocrite here. Maybe folks are just starting out, lack experience, and need some insights. Or maybe they don't have an awesome offline community they can turn to.

I don't have all the answers and I don't mean to sound like a curmudgeon. But at the same time, I see so many threads about habits and practices. We should talk about these things, but is BA the place for very personal matters?

2 per day mon-fri and then split the rest on the weekend, 5 on saturday and the 6 on sunday. Gotta give one extra on sunday for NFL or for comfort in knowing the next day is monday.
