I live in Buffalo. Technically midAtlantic (it would take me 6+ hours to get to the ocean). Ironically NOT on the great lakes region (I can get to 2 of the great lakes in under 45 minutes)

In Louisiana. Sadly the distribution here is really poor unless you live in New Orleans or Baton Rouge. A far cry from my years in Tampa Bay and Rochester, Ny

I thought it would be interesting to compare the results of this poll with the actual population breakdown of the U.S. According to Wikipedia, here are the actual population percentages by region (as designated by this poll):

    Great Lakes 14.67%
    Mid-Atlantic 15.37%
    Midwest 6.58%
    Mountain 4.50%
    New England 4.62%
    Northwest 3.69%
    Pacific 12.62%
    South 8.28%
    South-Atlantic 17.24%
    Southwest 12.43%

Based on this, as of current poll results, the following regions are over-represented on BA:
    Great Lakes
    Mid-Atlantic
    Midwest
    New England
    Northwest
    South

And the following regions are under-represented on BA:
    Mountain
    Pacific
    South-Atlantic
    Southwest

I think it would be interesting to see each region's percentage of breweries relative to its population (based on BA brewery listings). It might provide some insight as to the disparity between the numbers in this poll and actual U.S. population distribution. But I don't have the time to calculate that.

There is, however, this map, which shows breweries per capita by state.

Kansas is in the dark ages as far as craft breweries go, but it's getting better. You folks in the Northwest and Northeast do not realize how good you have it, so be thankful.

Here's the problem...I live in New England but spent all my beer formative years in California (and other places, but mostly California) , from Chula Vista to South lake to Crescent City...the whole damn state...and that was a good chunk of time...now I am in New England...both have their charms, but overall I miss California and being able to walk in and get Pliny or Supplication on tap in Santa Rosa straight from the source...last place I lived in Cali...Ludwig Ave...

Northern Virginia, so I said Mid atlantic. NoVa seems to be more discussed in mid atlantic than in South Atlantic, despite Va being in South Atlantic, and I definitely feel that beers from DC, Maryland, and even Delaware are more local to me than anything from North Carolina on southward.

West Virginia has usually been designated as a Mid-Atlantic state. But as the Honorable Senator Robert C. Byrd had often said, "West Virginia is the most Northern of the Southern states, the most Eastern of the Mid-Western states, the most Southern of the Northern states and the most Western of the Atlantic states. What a proud, glorious mongrel we are.
