Hey, I'll be in New Orleans, LA on the 26th - 29th from Houston, TX. I plan on going to Stien's Market and Deli. Anything local stuff I should look for? Or just anything good. Brewery / brewpub recommendations? Thanks in advance!!
NOLA is about the only good local brewery. Bayou Teche is just blah, but not out right bad. Avenue Pub is one of the best beer bars in the country, and not that far from Stein's. I highly recommend going to Frenchmen Street, just cause I love live jazz Blue Nile has a surprising beer selection, and Three Muses is amazeballs (NOLA, Stone, and a few others on tap). Might as well stop at dba if you are in that neighborhood as well.
Had a NOLA Irish Stout when I was up in North Louisiana, it was nice. There is another thread here that addresses some things http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-guide-to-visiting-new-orleans.130294/ For food, I have a few Deanie's: BBQ Shrimp Acme Oyster House: What it says. don't fear the line, it moves pretty good Cafe Maseperos: Good sandwich, they make my favorite muffaletta, some feel different Luke: Great french-german food that won't break your wallet (have 3 house made beers) Also: http://www.thrillist.com/travel/new...re-to-get-the-best-craft-beers-in-new-orleans 4 of these can be hit pretty easy if you are in the french quarter
NOLA Mecha Hopzilla is worthwhile and anything by Parish is worth trying. Agree with the posters above on avoiding bayou teche and that Avenue Pub is by far the best beer spot in the city. Some of my food reccomendations aside from some of the oblivious places: Lunch: Commanders Palace: Brennan's family owned, three course menu for $20 and $.25 martinis at lunch Domilises: My favorite shrimp Poboy in the city, especially If ordered with roast beef gravy Parkway: solid roast beef Poboy Guy's: another good Poboy option Dinner: Jacque Imos: have to get their early, around 530, as they don't take reservations but this is my favorite dinner spot in the city. A great variety of creole dishes. Casual but not the cheapest option Herbsaint: nicer spot in the quarter with great mixed drinks. I'd call ahead for reservations as its a pretty small spot Dragos: only if you want oysters, everything else is underwhelming. More casual spot inside the Hilton riverside hotel Atchafalaya: Another fancier option that I've never been disappointed by.
Avenue Pub and Stein's Deli are 'must do'. Drink and stock up on some Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen and De Struise that you can't get here in TX.
Avenue is where it's at! If you're driving there stopping at parish on the way or way back is worthwhile
Go to Avenue, it's 24/7. Just stay there the entire trip... It's what I try to do. If you have to leave, Stein's is just down the road, and while the beer selection is good, the sandwhich selection is better.
I'll agree with that 100%. But the "Sam" blew my mind. Pastrami instead of corned beef, and Cole Slaw instead of Saurkraut.
Tropical Isle is located at 600 Bourbon, which is Bourbon and Toulouse; God gave you two hands for a reason.
