Personally I would like to see the ISO:FT: threads to remain open to comments. The homerism and threadshitting is nowhere near as painful on these type of threads as it is in the "how much is my beer worth bro?" type of threads. There are also times where someone will chime in and say "help out OP and I will add x bottle to get the deal done", or when someone wants to give away beers and doesn't want their inbox destroyed for days... I think comments in ISO:FT: threads are more good than bad.

I would also like to see the 30 day wait to post in trading forums return. I feel like it gave people time to read and learn the ropes a little more and stopped people joining the day after a big release with the sole intent of flipping beers for profit.

It appeared to weed out the profiteering a little and I for one felt like I had payed my dues by waiting the 30 days and respected trading a little more.

    My .02 worth. Cheers.

Fair enough. Has the rise coincided with the removal of the 30 day waiting period just out of curiosity? I understand the want to eliminate these from the trading forum but I fear some of what goes on there will just get filtered into the Help Forum and bury more useful threads like Bad Trader ones etc. But on the flip side of that it may make the moderators job more manageable if you cut down on the forums they are having to moderate.

Not true. I started negotiations with a Chicago-area BA and his grammar was awful. Made me wary, but his communication was pretty consistent and we went ahead with the trade. His packing was excellent and he included quite a few great extras, some of which were on my wants list. I figured out he either works for or owns a beer store. If I had refused to trade with him based on his grammar alone, I would have never found out that he's a great trader to have met.

This simple technicality is why I'm on WTKeene's side. I'm never out to "win a trade" but I'm out to make a trade happen soon (especially if I'm trading IPAs) and, if I'm way off in value ratios, it's a lot easier and more likely for someone to just post a sentence on my ISO:FT rather than take out the extra time and mailbox space to send me a Beer Mail. This is the internet. It may seem silly, but seconds and megabytes count.

I agree wholeheartedly that KBBS is not worth that, but I don't think there's any way you can stop people from offering what they feel is necessary for what they want.

I know. I even said "I know it's silly." But we're in a new era of laziness. Just sayin'. I'd rather keep the lines of communication as open as possible than restrict them in even the slightest fraction. Threadshitting and the like are going to happen regardless, it's useless to fight it.

In most cases even $250 worth of beer won't get it done. One guy in our local beer group offered a staggering amount of beer for a KBBS, easily $300 worth of really great beers some very limited too, crickets, nothing at all. I'd agree that those who ISO are just as guilty of feeding this nonsense as those FT this, but still its an open forum don't like it ignore it. Which I do, you can't legislate this stuff out, but it's where the thread shitting comes from.

How about being able to post that your trade is closed if people are still messaging you about it? If comments are disabled then your only other options would be to delete your post thus cutting down on searchable examples in the trade forum.

From what I understand if you are posting a different offer then there is no time restriction... You can always revise your post or make a new offer with different bottles if it doesn't get done right away.

edit the title to say "closed" like many other forums require... we're really grasping at straws here.

Got it...didn't know you could do that as I've never had to edit a title before.

I think value threads are better than the search function. For example when wanting to know what you have to give up to obtain a beer that isn't traded often, you can use the search function and see offers but you have no idea if it's a fair trade because no one usually puts up what eventually got done. So you end up going through ten or so threads trying to determine the value but without an idea of what actually got done, or without the op posting "closed" on it, that information is kinda useless. Value specific threads are better for spreading that information. Not the "I have this beer what can I get it of it" you're thread but "I have x beer and want to trade for y beer, is this enough, what do I need to add, etc" thread. Then the search function becomes useful because that thread well have information if those bottles are likely to get it done or will give the person a good idea of what they need to add to get it done.

As far as comments on the FT section, eh, whatever, the issue I have with it is the selective moderation of some people's posts but not others, but that's s whole new issue. Comments should either not be allowed or unmoderated, except in certain circumstances.

You can't , as of right now. People usually request the title to be changed by a mod. You can edit the post itself tho.

So, as long as I change or add one beer in my ISO:FT, I don't have to abide by the 72-hour time window?

Correct. As long as its the original ISO you change instead of reposting a new one.

Not trying to argue, but there's a "thread tools-edit title" button on the top right

Most of the real problem moderation items IMO stem from users who are past the 30 days. I think many of the comments in this thread reflect this too.
