I had an idea for a possible BIF and was wondering if people would be interested.

    Here is the premise:
    · 20 Participants each pick a White Whale, a bottle or two, from their collection (22 oz or greater). A White Whale would be a beer that would be on most wants list.

    · 20 Participants also each pick a White Elephant, a bottle or two, from their collection or that they can easily get (22 oz or greater). The White Elephant would be an item that you think is the worst thing you’ve ever tasted in your life (Homebrews and Macrobrews like MGD, Bud Light, etc. do not count – Must be a craft beer)!

    · The 20 participants then send me their White Elephant item (keeping the White Whale part a secret) and I make a list.

    · The 20 participants are then assigned randomly picking orders and in that order get to choose one of the White Elephants (which is also paired with a secret White Whale).

    · After the 1st participant has picked a White Elephant, the 2nd participant can either pick a new White Elephant or steal the White Elephant from the 1st participant, and so forth until all White Elephants have been picked.

    · White Elephants can only be stole twice, and after that time they are locked to that participant.
o Example, Bob picks White Elephant #3, Joe then steals White Elephant #3 from Bob, and Alyssa then steals White Elephant #3 from Joe. White Elephant Package #3 stays with Alyssa.

    · Additional Rules:
o You may not pick your own White Elephant
o We always pick in order, and if someone steals your White Elephant you go to the end of the order.
o Stealing is encouraged!!!!!! It will add some more excitement to the BIF!
o Participants will each receive a White Elephant of at least 22 oz (can be multiple of 12 oz brews) and a White Whale of at least 22 oz (can be multiple of 12 oz brews)

I can see this BIF taking a little bit of time, especially if participants are stealing from each other. I would like to have 20 participants by Friday 2/15/2013. If you are interested in trying this BIF out, BM me with your name and White Elephant item so I can start making the list (remember your White Whale stays a secret until they get the shipment).

Participants must have a positive trade history and have access to White Whales in order to be included on this BIF.

If you think I might have let some important rules or information please let me know in the thread and if you are interested in participating send the BM with your name and White Elephant item.

If you are not participating because you don't know what White Elephant you want to use, that is fine. Once we get 20 we can decide that information.

The difficulty with 'Whale' BIFs is that (as the hauls are announced) they usually lead to an 'elephant' in the room.

True, but a whale could just be something on someone's want list.

But you do not know who you are sending to. A better way would be to see everyone's "Whales" but not know which Elephant is attached to each one, then to the list with the Elephants. You know everybody's whale and elephant but not together. That way the group could decide if a whale is worthy. That way you don't have one guy put up something crazy like M, and the next guy puts up a "whale" like BCBCS. Just my 2 cents.

When you're using the term "whale" there is a guarantee that everyone is going to bicker and argue about who killed who whale worthiness.

    Rau71 -
Great idea! Now is there a way I can run it and also participate (I would know everyone's whales and elephants).

That would be hard. I think you would have to know to orginize it and keep people from picking their own elephant and such. If you had one person that had all the elephants and one person have all the whales would be the only way I could see this working.

you just need a trustworthy non-participating BA. May I suggest:

I'd say you could be in it if you never pick (i.e. - you just get whichever elephant is left over at the end) - that way nobody could accuse you of cherry picking a particular whale. I'm intrigued by this idea, but would want more clarification as to what qualifies as a whale for this bif.

Getting involved in the walez biz is risky. It's like the stock market...except people here have no soul.

Step 1. Have 20 people send you whales, bro
Step 2. Create new BA username
Step 3. Drink 20 whales, bro

    Do you even LIF?
