I have been noticing recently almost every single APA or IPA I purchase has a white cloudy like substance at the bottom of the bottle. This has been happening even with some cans. I am wondering if this is supposed to happen because hoppy beers that I purchase that do not have this cloudy substance seem to have much more pronounced flavors and have been more enjoyable.

It's likely just yeast settling out of the beer. It's fine to drink it but may change some of the flavor and appearance of the beer. I notice it in beers I drink too, mostly light colored beers like APA and IPA's.

If it bothers you just be careful pouring to not disturb the yeast sediment or stop short when pouring and leave the last 1/4" of beer in the bottle.

Protein coagulation due to age is the cause. Fresh beers will be crystal clear, but after a few months the precipitation of those proteins will settle out in the bottle. So the reason the clear beers taste better, is because they are fresher. Always check your bottle dates.

It's yeast and/or other flocculants - such as hop particles or proteins. Like the poster above said, just leave the last quarter inch.

I would suggest that it is much more likely the former unless the beer is quite old.

Totally normal and varies beer to beer. I actually love my beers cloudy, like a meal in a can, LOL.
    Cheers.

Beer sediment can be one or more of the following:
    • Yeast
    • Protein
    • Polyphenols
I prefer to decant off of the sediment but this is a personal choice for all of us beer drinkers.

    Cheers!

I noticed this once in one of the local beers that I buy and reached out to the brewery. They told me it was just yeast particles. To this day when I'm buying one of their 6 packs I will hold up each individual beer and if I see any floaters I buy something else. Don't know what I'll do if they start canning their beer...

    Quite yummy.
Canned a little over a week before I poured.

Might I be so bold as to ask which brewery produced this?

Yikes. That's why I never drink from the can. Want to know what the heck there might be in my beer.

"It's a better presentation" is the short answer.
....The deeper explanation is that I first check some of the other 6 packs at the store and if I see one without the specks I get it. But if not I move on to plan B...Love the beer (Scuttlebutt's Hoptopia Imperial IPA) both with and without the specks. But it is quite similar to Pyramid's Outburst Imperial IPA, another fine local beer. When in doubt I go for the cleaner presentation.
    Cheers !

Well, you're missing out on a lot of great beers. 99% of all craft beer has "floaters" in it. Because it's unfiltered or partially filtered and unpasteurized. And from now on, no matter what I say on here, I'll add "Cheers!" .........NOT!

I'm love unfiltered beers. but this particular beer is supposed to be filtered. It's what the brewer was going for. So I check to see if any of the other 6 packs of that particular beer have been brewed at the brewer intended.

I sense by your name and location (Antarctica!?) That I'm talking to a troll here so I will just wish you well and say goodby...

LOL pianoguy! Not sure what my name has to do with anything. DISKORD is an Electronic music duo from UK. And if I change my location, will it make you feel better?
