I don't mind shandies. Shock Top's shandies are a little too sweet, but I genuinely enjoy Leinenkugel's. I just wish they weren't owned by AB-InBev. :frowning2:

Rarely in New York do I ever see any pure beer from Leinenkugel. Just the various shandies and fruit beer.

    You're in luck - they're not.

Wholly-owned subsidiary of MillerCoors - Miller Brewing Co. bought them in the late 1980s.

Low abv sweet beer for the summer. I have a few Shandy's in my fridge now.

I notice a lot of people drinking them on summer Wednesday nights at my communities summer concert series.

Yeah, if we drank now what we drank then I think we'd realize it sucked, but at that age I don't remember being too picky.

Just drink a pilsner or a pale ale if you're feeling like a summer drink. Even a Kolsch! Just get that disgustingly sweet garbage shandy style the heck away from me. I put most shandy's on par with Straw-Ber-Rita's and that kinda junk. Not real beer!

I love a shandy in the sauna in the summer. Perfect sauna beer.

Cheap bastard here but if it's half beer shouldn't it also be something like half price - doesn't seem to work out that way when I've seen them on tap. Would love to have 4 or 5 of them watching golf at the bar on a sunday afternoon but it just isnt cost effective.

Kölschs and Hefeweizens are perfect summer craft beers. It is getting harder to find an unfruited Kölsch though...

Boulevard's Radler sells well around here, and know a few people who only drink Leingeinkugal's Summer Shandy in the hot months.

Personally, I still prefer light lagers to Boulevard's Radler, but I will say - a cold Radler is my definition of refreshment when tailgating a major sporting game on a large concrete surface in the middle of a Midwest heat wave. Just make sure to keep that can in a koozie otherwise it'll be back up to body temperature by the time you've finished flipping the burgers on the grill.

Dunno about retailers ordering a shitload of them, but I enjoy about a six-pack over the course of the summer, which is about six times more than I enjoy an AAL.

Well, if they were just regular beer watered down with water (sic) rather than a fruit-based additive, they should indeed be half-priced. You know, like some mass-produced lite beers.

For me at that age, there just were not many choices. Now we call them AALs.

Will it cost less to package, transport, label the beer if it has lemonade added? Will they be paying their employees half of their wages while they work on this beer? Does their insurance premium half when they add lemonade? Perhaps the property taxes are lower when they brew with lemonade?

Tongue in cheek of course, but the alcohol in the beer is only a small part of what you are paying for.

I saw on reddit that a grapefruit shandy (can't remember who made it) works great as a grapefruit soda substitute in a Paloma. So I'm looking forward to trying that.

Yeah because you don't see six-packs of pure lemonade going for $10.99 or more. So a can of Shandy does contains 12oz. of a less expensive mixture than pure beer. So mixing your own at home is economical as well.

My kids buy craft lemonade at a local farmers market. It is $2.00 a bottle.
