I do a little of each to figure out whether I'd (probably) like a beer or not. I'll take a look at the overall score, and if it seems good, I'll look at what everyone is saying in their reviews. For example, I prefer sweeter, less coffee-forward BA stouts, so if every review mentions a "bitter coffee" taste, I'll probably skip it.

There are also specific people on Beer Advocate who I've noticed have similar tastes to my own, so I will pay special attention to what they say about beers I'm interested.

So to summarize, yes, keep the words coming!

Yup. I read whisky reviews over at reddit as well. Usually, it's to figure out what I'm tasting- some flavors are hard to put down on paper, so it helps to see what other people have to say. Other times, it's to gauge what my next purchase should be.

I have had no problem getting stuff like that deleted. It ruins this site to have folks do this IMO. I have reported folks for doing this.

I read reviews frequently, sometimes just for kicks because so many are entertaining, but usually to scope out a new beer I'm aiming to buy. I'll usually check out around 10 good reviews if I'm truly interested in a beer, especially a pricey one, and I always look for reviews that have thoughtfulness and honesty put into them, no matter the rating.

I like to write reviews too, if nothing else but for my own records, as they no doubt get buried by hundreds of other reviews quickly (dependant on review frequency of course). but have gotten away from that as of late. As the Dos Equis guy might say, "I don't always write beer reviews, but when I do, I try to make them as thoughtful and useful as possible." :grinning:

I read some reviews that rate the beer high and others that rate it low. I want to know what people enjoy about it and what others dislike. I do this with almost everything I buy, because it is smart.

Thanks for your feedback, i also lookout for key words, i don't like the taste of alcohol in beer, so i will look out for that when reading reviews.

I read reviews. Generally recent ones, but sometimes i go by user if I've had (positive) interactions with people on the forum.

There's a 'see reviews only' button, or some name along those lines, to hide just the ratings. Its under the description of the beer. I've noticed this auto unchecks every time you rate a beer, and stays off until you check it again.

I'll only read top reviewers reviews or reviews the bros/magazine does. I don't trust the average BA user enough to have their opinions influence me at all. Normally I only read a review after I buy and drink something, just to see how it matches up.

Either way, this website will influence your beer purchases, unless you have no beer filter at all and just buy anything and everything within reach. Whether you allow it to do that before or after you make up your mind is your own prerogative.

I read and write reviews all the time. I try to focus on Texas beers, though not exclusively, and hope at least somebody gets something out of it. If not oh well, I still enjoy writing them and putting down my thoughts. For as much as the Texas beer scene takes over the Southwest forum, it always surprises me how little people actually review, or even rate for that matter.

Sometimes I do but mostly I don't read reviews. Sometimes I like to see what other BAs say about some beers but we all have different tast in beer and beer styles.

I set my filter to only show reviews, a score alone is not particularly useful. I often read a review before I make a new purchase, so I don't waste my time or money.
