I haven't been looking for them, but if past years are an indication, pumpkin beers started appearing on shelves in late May or early June. Some of these will be 2017 beers that stores/distributors are hoping folks will buy without checking dates - but some actually release early summer. I can wait as fall beers are just better with cooler weather for some reason...

One more reason the hate the continuing seasonal creep crap!
I agree with you here but those beers in the fall that have been brewed in July are not quite at peak of form when they have been sitting in hot warehouses/retailers for two months. Maybe this situation is not as critical in South Dakota?

    Cheers!

Well yeah, we get the cooler weather in late September quite often, and some of the early releases of fall beers may still be almost fresh.

Well, we see "back to school sales" starting about now. Today, it's close to 90F and Costco has flannel sheets on display. My mailbox has a variety of fall clothing catalogs. The local farm store is putting out the fleece and winter weight Carhartt lined bibs.

So, why are surprised to see fall beers coming in?

I expect the Winter Warmers will show up by Labor Day.

Me? I'm sticking to local lagers like Bouy Pilsner and Deschutes Pacific Wonderland and Pale Ales.

Last week I was visiting Portland, OR (with a side trip to Astoria). I greatly enjoyed Buoy Czech Pilsner at the Buoy Brewery and Pacific Wonderland at the Deschutes Brewpub. I would continue drinking those beers if they were available to me.

    Cheers!

Not sure what prompts the gushers, but I know I've had a few with (what appear to be) older bottles of Ayinger -- and not just the Oktoberfest.

Also, they will tend to taste off after a while too -- I know I've been disappointed in some Oktos I've bought much later than the true season.

Seeing that fall comes right before winter, no thanks. Michigan winters suck, I just shook off the cabin fever and bad weather depression from last winter. I'm hanging on to summer till frost forms.

Personally I hate the fact that beer is seasonal. I wish they would make my favorite beers all year long. Instead, I have to stock up in the winter time, enjoy whenever is available and go on a year long drought until it's available again. As regard fall beers, they just leave me disappointed, while they are slightly better than summer beers, they just don't measure up to the stouts that comes out during the winter seasons.

I disagree. As far as I'm concerned, good beer knows NO season

If wet-hopped/harvest ales are technically considered “fall beers”, then fuck yes.

I love fall beers as much as I love fall. The leaves will be falling in less than 90 days :astonished:

The only thing I'm ready for is another opportunity to insist that pumpkin beer is an abomination and fit for nothing but pouring down the sink or maybe putting out in the garden in a shallow bowl to drown slugs in.

Wet hopped beers may be the only style of seasonal beer that will not suffer from commercial brewery season creep.

Cheers to wet hopped beers being brewed in season!!!!!!

I'm with you. I guess I do agree that they are starting to be released too early. Feel like the first week in August should be the earliest.

That being said, Fall and Winter beers are by far my favorites. I'll try as many pumpkin beers, autumn ambers, reds, maples, etc. as I can find. Just got to make sure they are sitting at about 33 degrees until the temps start to at least drop into the mid 60s again at night.

If someone doesn't like pumpkin beer because they just don't like it, that's fine. I just have talked to people who think it somehow makes them a "real" beer person by poo-pooing pumpkin beers. Then, they'll turn around and buy a cucumber cantaloupe triple-hopped IPA or something.
