I don't hunt really anymore, used to drive hour or so away for good selection, sometimes still go, but good beer is everywhere now. My publix just got 2 week old all the sculpins$13. Flesh and blood sometimes for $10!Used to only get that at bottle shops. So awesome and there is always good stuff to find now everywhere.

However "the hunt" for me now, is more of checking all the dates and I get excited when I come up on some real fresh Jai alai or Westbrook or something cool.

I'll always follow the truck for every enjoy by delivery though.

I watched the hype train on so many things, like KBS, and tried it only to 'meh'. So. Meh. I liked FIS and FBS better.
CBS is akin to bragging rights? Maybe. I went skiing on Black Friday. Trenching snow lines > waiting in Bourbon County lines.

I tried Stone 'Enjoy By' finally....and it was nice. But not standing-in-line worthy. Coronado has a beer, Stingray, that is largely the same flavor. And it was generally available with no fanfare. Meh.

Found 10 cases of BCBS or bought 10 cases?

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of members visit shops rather frequently, and in doing so have a better chance of picking up something rare or limited. Now whether you choose to buy that or not, or if it's considered hunting is up for debate.

    I'd been drinking, sorry I wasn't clear
I found the cases, but did not purchase. I think the ole lady would kill me with a $1300+ beer haul. Of the same thing and of no variety (she's not a BCBS drinker!).

There's not a beer I want bad enough to ever have to wait in a line for it. If it's a beer I want I'll generally pay somebody a bit of a premium if I want to try something but I'm not into lines and my time is way too valuable. With that said, I don't want to give the impression that I fault people in lines, I know plenty of people who really love the experience, just not for me. Most of the beers people line up for around here never match the hype (how can they really??) and I generally feel I can find an equal or better version of those beers not only for less money but no waiting.

It seems like most of us go through this phase. It's rare for me these days, but I am hot after CBS as I have only been fortunate enough to have a sample of it at a Beerfest a few years back.

Locally, we have breweries like Trillium consistently releasing variants/collaborations that are impossible to keep up with. Some people still try, but I've learned to not worry about it.

I am. Probably for the past 10 years or so, I haven't really cared about the next big release. The proliferation of better beer being more readily available helps quell that urge a lot, though.

You're always missing out on something. Too many great beers out there to drink them all, all the time.

I don't hunt and really never have. If I find something, hooray beer. If I "miss out", I just drink something else. So if I were to stumble across CBS and had the cash in pocket, I would try it but I won't go out of my way to find it, for example. I am fortunate to live within easy driving distance of some very good bottle shops (packies for the "native" New Englanders) as well as top notch breweries, although the breweries are a little farther away. I always have a wide selection of tasty treats available that I don't have to chase nor stand in line to buy. I have at least one new to me beer a week, and that isn't all that difficult to maintain these days, even from my own "cellar" which could use some serious "drinking down"..

Man, I feel your pain on that one. What a terrible spot to wait in line ANY time, much less in February. Sure hope the new tenants (Shaidzon) know what they are getting into and that Proclamation's new digs are more customer friendly.

If the store is reasonably well stocked and you visit often enough sure, the occasional prize will turn up. I understand the attraction and indulged in it for a number of years. No longer though, rare and expensive no longer serve to interest me. My only standard now is how well it shows in a blind tasting.

I just go to the store every week. Pick up something new and tasty. Once in a while will have them set aside some beers, 4 pack or case when they receive them. Case of Narwahl, case of Bigfoot etc.

    Life is too short.

And I'm fortunate to live in an area where excellent beer (and wine & spirits) are readily available on the shelf.

I was taking a break, but then the Sierra Nevada Fresh Hop Pack happened and for some God Forsaken reason just won't come to South Jersey. Now I'm lusting and have that sense of adventure back.

I actually enjoy the hunt but with limits. I will go for items I can get nearby and the cost is reasonable. I think some of the fun is finding that beer you always wanted to try, it may take a little more work but that is sort of fun at times. I also go for periods of time when I just don't worry about it, sort of a break from the hustle. I think as long as you don't go overboard it can remain fun without becoming too much.
    Cheers

To take an old phrase from long ago which correlates to my "beer hunting", "who are the Greatful Dead and why do they keep following me?" I may not actively hunt special releases out, but I do happen to find my myself at the right place at the right time to get what I'm looking for.

I've always felt that it's better to know where to look for good beer in general than it is to look for a specific beer in particular.

Not much into hunting. For example, while it would have been nice to get a 4-pack of CBS (never had it), and I'd have been willing to ride the subway a few stops or walk a few blocks from where I work in NYC to get one (done this in the past for KBS, BCBS and other stuff)). But I followed the CBS bottles in NYC thread throughout the work day on 12/1 and came to the conclusion that it would either be sold out by the time I got out of work or just be somewhere too far out of my way. Didn't even bother looking for it out on Long Island. Oh well, maybe next year.
