I hope nobody calls me that, but I have been known to lurk in a prog forum or two... just like I read some beer forums...

I don't understand why it's hard understand your friend's viewpoint. I don't buy stuff from ABI or Miller/Coors... I don't deny they have some great beers but I don't like them as companies so I don't want to support them with my money. Plus there are so many great beers from independent brewers that I always have plenty of great stuff to drink. I feel similarly about walmart as a corporation so I don't shop there. I don't care what others drink or where they shop, but I would encourage everyone to be a thoughtful consumer. As far as outrage goes, I don't have any of that.

I heard of that drink but it was called a Montana Mary. I know this because I paid for one for a "go-go girl" in a dive bar in Newark NJ many years ago.

It just seems like a bizarre place to take a stand. Why deprive oneself of Ballast Point or Goose Island simply because of a parent company? The success of these breweries as divisions is still dependent on continued sales.

I should point out that this friend will absolutely drink Miller Lite when at a tailgate or on the beach ... but somehow 10 Barrel is bad? I failed to point out this hypocrisy in my original post ... perhaps that's the part about which I'm so incredulous?

Or variants on the Michelada, which are made all over the place in Mexico. See also: Bud Light Chelada (please don't actually see it. It's bad).

It's also the age of hypersensitivity. Anyone familiar with the recently popularized notion of "micro-aggressions"?

How DARE this author call BA's out for outrage?! I mean, who the hell does she think she is??? She's clearly not a true beer geek! I'll bet she's on ABInbev's payroll...we should all boycott her articles and anything from DRAFT for that matter!!

It's funny, "red beer" is everywhere, coast to coast, and everywhere, coast to coast, thinks a local thing not done elsewhere. That tomato juice will rot yer brain!

exactly. there was a time when that behavior was saved for politics and religion. now its everywhere. you don't recognize the genius of Dream Theater/ single hop IPA's/ Disney on Ice/ then you must be a lower life form who doesn't deserve to share my oxygen.

I sincerely hope that you are not noticing that on BA. It sure seems to me that the ones who have been at it a while are exactly the opposite of that- we are the ones trying to poke a hole in that balloon of narrow-minded pretentiousness and hopefully open some eyes to everything else that there is out there.

At least outrage shows passion, which is usually good

Ninety plus percent of people on here are just normal decent people who really like craft beer. This is boring. The ten percent who behaves like the article is necessary for entertainment purposes.

If you want to see an awesome show, I've seen it happen twice. Both times, it was clear that the aggressor was clearly that guy who was new to craft beer and was excited about all the Facebook likes he thought he would get when he posted about how he gave the ab rep the what for.

The first time was entertaining, because the rep is an extremely patient person who was doing an event, so they started by buying the guy an ipa from a small brewery in new York (it was a goose island event, the aggressor probably figured he was being clever and getting a free beer from the guy he was going to berate, it was hoptical illusion by Blue point). So the rep keeps him to the side and starts pumping facts about the beer Industry into this schmuck while continuing to feed him a bunch of ab owned craft beers. After about an hour of this (and 4 beers) the schmuck screams "fine, but I'll still never drink an ab product, so ha!" the rep then turns, gets everybody's attention to tell them the raffle was being drawn, introduces this guy and has him repeat his anti ab statement. Ab rep then informs him he just drank 4 and liked them. I was really hoping the schmuck would commit seppuku and rid the world of one more idiot, instead, he slunk away throughly defeated.

Second was at a beer fest where somebody took a swing at an ab rep, it was caught on camera, guy got tackled by security quickly and arrested. The real shame is that this ab rep looked like he could have broken this guy in half. I was hoping for some live combat with my beer, oh well.

I think the problem is that many beer geeks don't understand the realities of the beer business (which is what it is, providing the living for lots of people and their families, so they're pretty invested) and somehow these people think that only knowing what they think and read on Facebook that they're. More qualified to make a judgment about the morality, quality and intelligence of what somebody else does for a living. That plus some beer might explain the opinions I've not so nicely said on different threads here.

It's really the same thing as a rumspringa for the internet age. People are still bemused by the simple fact that even now they can some how mask their stupid existence behind a qwerty enhanced avatar enabled anonymity and act like complete teenaged assholes who deserve a punch in the face.
