Why are Bell's beers either World Class or really "average"?

Bells is a whale in NJ only because we can't get it on the shelves. If we did then most of their stuff would collect dust like any other decent beer. They are decent. But I think Founders blows them away.

 

3 out 4 times I would purchase a Bell's beer over Founders 100% of the time

 

Agree, I think it's just personal opinion. I have some friends who thing Oberon is the best beer ever and don't that other Bells offerings are as good.

The fact that we're having such an in-depth discussion on which/how many of Bell's beers are amazing, I think it's safe to say they're freakin' awesome and I wish we got them in MA...

One of my prized possessions right now is the Expedition Stout I picked up on a trip recently haha

 

All the Bells detractors can give their Bells to me, I'll find a good use for it! Yummy!

I would honestly put Hopslam in the average category. And Best Brown in world class.

 

1. Everybody has different taste
2. Name a brewery were every beer is world class.
3. The more beers you produce the less quality you are probably going to get.

 

I would never like to be the arbiter of what constitutes "World Class". Just think of all the pressure, and your constituency waiting for the next pronouncement with baited breath. Personally, I couldn't handle it..........

312 came out well after Oberon, and Oberon / Solsun has made Bells a kcuf ton of money and funded their expansions, so I'd let that fact speak for itself in regards to this single person with a palate gripe fest.

 

Black note compared to many other barrel aged stouts isn't even close. Black note is chalky and has almost no barrel

This made me laugh because I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

None of this surprises me. The hate for Samuel Adams, Founders', Bells and Goose Island just grows and grows. You'd think the evil Bud has taken over.

 

Have you had it on cask? I liked it even more, very nice.
