and i mean strictly nelson hops

is nelson too tough to grow? ship? too expensive?

anyone know the real answer to this? do breweries just ignore the fact that it's the best hop ever?

    enlighten me people

I'm kind of partial to Galaxy, but I agree Nelson is the bomb. NEBCO Coriolis, that is all.

Not to highjack, but if you like Nelson, try and get your hands on a growler of Great South Bay - Field 5 Golden IPA...gives Nelson a run for its money. Too bad it's draft only right now.

Don't know the answer, but the only Nelson hopped beers I have had so far are Alpine Nelson and Noble Ale Works Nelson Showers. Interesting flavor to that particular hop for sure.

I like it, but currently prefer Galaxy and Simcoe®. LOL at the registered trademark, but I actually saw it on a beer I was drinking last weekend.

Nelson is the best ever, just had TG Zeelander last week and it was the bomb. Arguably better than Alpine Nelson considering it was only 5.5% ABV but the same hop intensity. Not sure why there aren't more all Nelson beers. I know my favorite local brewery can't get Nelson hops, but I think they said that's because they would have to be able to buy it in a larger amount than they could reasonably use.

How many six packs of Anchor Humming and Widmer Drifter did you buy? Both were awesome, both discontinued.
If you're in So Cal, give Mother Earth Kismet a try.

Strictly Nelson hopped? I don't think they should be used like that.

I think shipping, size of production, and overall cost have a lot to do with it.

Those hops are from New Zealand. They don't have that many acres under cultivation.

BTW - I think those are my least favorite hops ever. Everyone is different, just my perception.

It is an interesting hop. Nelson Sauvin- namesake of the famous New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and region- sports some of the same flavor and aroma attributes of said wine (fruitiness, gooseberry, lime, grapefruit and more). I probably shouldn't even mention that cat pee bit, but oops. I'll bet it's expensive.

That hop is so damn good! I think I've had a single hopped beer from Widmer Brothers. I've used a few in my homebrews. REALLY dig them!!

Favorite hop. Always searching for more beers that use it.

OP was talking about the hops, not the beer. Either way, nothing GSB has ever put out should be mentioned in the same sentence as Alpine beers.

I 2nd Coriolis. One of the Best DIPAs out there.

-sidenote, heard that Modern Times was the only brewery to get whole cone Nelson hops in the US.

The farther away and harder to obtain something is, the more undeserved hype it gets.

I could barely drink Alpine, a good friend liked it. As I said we are all different.

Only about 400 acres total production in 2012 for ALL New Zealand hops. That is why you don't see more Nelson beers.

The finish was really crappy white wine to me. Really crappy stuff from my youth. That is why it is called Nelson Sauvin, after the sauvin blanc wine from NZ. My wife had a glass of that type wine, had me take a sip, same flavor aversion again. Both were not for me.
