    You guys are silly...

ytuo is obviously refering to Yeast Tertiary Underpitch Optimisation. This is where you underpitch your lager yeast three times, one in each fermenting stage. Everyone knows that secondaries are essential for clarity, but what is less well known is that tertiaries are perfect for reducing diacetyl. Also underpitching is science.

rte5 is the short version of Residual Tertiary Efficiency 5%, where you work your yeast within 5% of their optimal efficiency, thus tiring them out enough so that they just want to go to bed and can't be bothered making diacetyl at all.

Personally, I'd advocate a hybrid ytuo/rte10 system (rte5 isn't directly compatible with ytuo at this stage, although I have heard it may be added in a firmware patch next year). It takes a bit longer, and requires more care, but you won't be able to taste butterscotch for a month when you nail it!

The best part is that as of this writing, "coolNeelam" hasn't been back to check on the results. I guess he/she figured it out on his/her own. Maybe saw the T-Shirt online somewhere.

coolNeelam is probably relaxing drinking homebrew with the vikings and the monks discussing the merits of rte5 vs ytuo.

Okay, I'm all for healthy debate, and if some mis-guided brewer chooses to use ytuo I can hold my tongue . . . but a hybrid of ytuo/rte5 is blasphemy. If you had made that post in Germany the Reinheitsgebot Polizei would arrest you for Conspiracy of Felonious Brewing (Kriminalität von Dummkopfbrauer). Rather than give credibility to this atrocity, I shan't speak of it ever again.

Thanks, but let's give credit where it is due . . . and that's to @coolNeelam. Obviously a lurker, but pretty sure the OP is highly skilled in the sciences, assuredly a researcher in the bio/organic chemistry field, probably even an educator . . . and I wouldn't be surprised if involved in philanthropy, maybe even an environmentalist. More impressive is the humility exhibited . . . produce the science for better understanding of brewing but let the everyday brewer receive the accolades of quality beer. Sets an example we all wish to follow.

OTH, the OP could be some scuzz-bucket who owns a reindeer slaughterhouse and is just trying to create a market for some nasty by-products.
