Why did Alesmith stop dating IPA bottles?

I know they do date their cans now, but I excitedly picked up their seasonal Double IPA, and noticed there was still no bottled-on or enjoy-by date. For all I know this could be a distributors shelf-turd from last year! Same goes for the bottles of IPA.

Anyone know why? And to follow up, was this years DIPA release in bottles or cans?

Check a few other stores for the same beer. It's not impossible that the beer you just bought was dated at one time and the retailer wiped it clean.

I found one place near here (that I don't visit anymore) who had some 12packs from a local brewery that I quite enjoy. Part of what I discovered was that not only was the retailer leaving out of code beers on the shelf, but had in fact arranged to carefully remove the date sticker from the 12packs. The brewery confirmed that not only do they date each bottle, but that sticker is put on every case or 12 pack that leaves their brewer.

"Bottles: On the shoulder of the bottle in yellow ink."
Does that help? That's where I've found them in the past...

I have noticed that sometimes its missing but due to fluke, etc. Like others mentioned check another bottle etc, if could have been missed or rubbed off.

Is it likely that entire cases of IPA, Lil Devil, and Nut Brown have been wiped off? There is no indicator that there was anything printed, not even a small yellow mark. I noticed this last year when I worked at a beer store.

No, that doesn't sound likely to me. Wiping a few bottles would be a lot different than doing a whole case or more.

Well no, that would be a different issue. I was referring to bottles etc.

Ah. I'm an idiot. I scoured the bottle for quite literally 2-3 minutes, only to find, when held at a very specific angle in the light, in a faded dark grey print was the bottled on date. April 27, 2017 (still tasting pretty good). They must have switched from the style that Stone uses (yellow, basic digital print) to one that is a more fine font, and literally a barely discernible color. Looks like I've been missing it all this time...
