Why do (or don't) you post reviews?

I do because I want to give someone an idea about what the actual beer tastes like, not just what the beer is described as by the brewer. Also, I love reading reviews when I am trying to decide to trade for a beer or not. Getting multiple points of view on a beer helps me determine if it's worth a shot or whether it'll be a disappointment.

I also, look at reviews to see the size of the bottle the beer comes in, and that's why I include the size of the bottle in all my reviews.

I often don't review beers because there are already multiple reviews that express what I would have said. My review would just be redundant so I'll just give it a rating and not waste my time.

I am not a wordsmith or poet by any means. Besides that it can be time consuming, especially on a night of several beers

I review beers for my own reference, so I know what I thought about any particular beer, and what experiences I got from it. My palate is weird enough that I doubt I help too many other folks out, and many of my reviews contain caveats about said weirdness. If other folks actually derive anything from my reviews, so much the better.

That being said, I do tend to browse through reviews when I'm deciding whether or not to try a new beer I've come across - and just reviews, the aggregate and even by-style ratings mean nothing to me. If there's a few reviews with descriptors I find intriguing, I may give the beer a try, and if there's a few reviews with descriptors I know I won't like, I don't bother.

So, thank you, other people who type up reviews!

THIS. I find it outrageous that folks can tick a beer or a place with a "1" and not explain why. You are affecting ratings, names, businesses... but don't care to write at least one line to explain your negativity?

I rate beers for my own personal reference for future purchasing, under a certain score and I won't try it again. I have done a few reviews, but as others have stated it felt like work and took the fun out of trying new beers and I am just not that great at conveying taste to words.

I rarely read a beer's review before I purchase any beers, and there are so many reviews for just about any beer with scores that sometimes vary widely, thus unhelpful, so it seems like everyone for himself when selecting a beer for the first time. I do Places reviews after my brewery visits, and I provide an overall rating of the beers in a narrative context so that anyone who is looking to visit a brewery in a community where there are multiple brewery choices might find my reviews to be helpful to steer them to the best choices.

I review all of my beers, mainly for personal reference. However, when I started, I did it for the beer karma :sunglasses:
Full beer reviews aren't worth what they used to be on this site.

I don't review, primarily because, as others have said, I usually have little to add that hasn't already been said.

I reviewed about 100 of the beers I had back in 2009 and 2010, but felt that I wasn't really adding value and, as mentioned it felt like a chore and took away from the enjoyment of beer, which is why it was 100 when I probably had over 200 unique beers in that time frame. Never had any intent to do it for beers I had at bars or out with friends, just ones I had while hanging at home with or without my ladyfriend of the time. It got old and I actually went back and deleted all of my reviews and replaced them with ratings except for Genny Bock. I've been trying to track via ratings recently and that has been tedious, so I don't know if I'll be able to stick to it.

I used to read some reviews from guys like BuckeyeNation, but not anymore.

I started writing reviews just to learn about the beer I was drinking. I met plenty of awesome people that way so I kept doing it. Now though I am drinking a lot of repeats because there's beer out there I like and want to have again and again. I also have found it quite pleasant to simply tick a beer and drink it rather than go over in depth.

I like to drink my beer first and come up with my own conclusions, then see what the seasoned vets on here think. I don't write reviews because I'm a nerdy engineer and my technical writing skills are flat out boring

I wouldn't want to poo poo on certain beers because they aren't to my liking, but probably amazing for the style!

I generally review only when I rate a beer abnormally low. However, this often leads to a re-review when I try the same beer a second or third time and realize it's actually not that bad.

I look at reviews on here to get an idea of the flavor of a beer which you do not have to write a lot to get that through. Rating the beer does nothing for me. I always read reviews rather than pay too much attention to scores. Although, now that I have started reviewing I can agree it takes a little fun out of just drinking it, but if I have a chance to help someone make that push into deciding whether or not to buy a beer why not.

I do not review on BA for a couple reasons. I am not a professional beer taster so these "subtle notes of blah" I don't even understand. How do people know how cedar and oak taste anyway? And also it is too cumbersome. Much easier on untapped! I like short reviews anyway, I don't want to read an essay on a beer, and everyones tastes very.

It's hard to write really specific reviews unless I am in a place where I can write the review as I am drinking the beer. I don't want to sit down and write a review when I am out somewhere and generally I am too lazy to do it when I am at home. So I guess laziness and low desire to write reviews.
