this beer happens to be the lifeblood of the humble little mtn town I live in called Whitefish, Montana. Its not my beer of choice by any means but I find myself drinking pitchers of this from time to time without a fuss.

I once said "I would rather lick the sweat from a dog's balls than drink PBR". When I found out they were the same thing I started buying PBR because the dog wouldn't bite me when I drank the Pabst

I'd rather pay $1.75 for fresh Miller Light on draft.

I drink it because its not as bad as some people make it out to be.

It taste better than Miller, Bud, Coors, etc.

    I can get a 30 pack for $14.99 or a 4 pack from Founders for $11.99 - $17.99

    Goes damn good with burgers.

And cause grandpa used to drink it.

I don't understand how people can be so critical of other AAL and then drink PBR, or Yuengling......

I agree. However, living in PA deep in Yuengling country, somtimes all that is available is Yuengling Lager. I'd rather drink that than any BMC or even PBR.

Very careful and also very intentional marketing.

When, in 1980, i was young (17-18) and my palate only knew heavily advertised add-junk lagers, my beer of choice was Michelob, usually we drank Bud. If we were particularly poor and couldn't afford the $6 case of 24 Bud cans, we skipped down to PBR's cousin, Red, White & Blue. Tasted the same as PBR, cost $4.
Having expanded my palate since and easily finding good beer, I have no desire to to ever drink any of the swill I used to consume in the bad, old days. PBR, Miller, Bud, Michelob, et cetera, are all on my "do not drink" list. Honestly, most lagers are on that list, but add-junk pilsener lagers are the top of the list to avoid. The only reason I can find to drink one, assuming I can talk myself into it, is to get a review done. One & done. To this day I still haven't had Coors, Beck's, Heineken and several other well known lager beers.
I nearly stopped drinking beer completely 30 years ago because of that shit, I'm not going to drink any of it now with thousands of good beers to choose from instead.
    My $.02.

For me, not liking it has nothing to do with associating it with certain types of people I don't like. Although, that is totally a thing. When I think PBR, I either think of the hoodie wearing hipster with the thick-rimmed glasses, or the knuckle dragging "brah" that is incapable of abstract thought.

I know, however, that these are just stereotypes and there will always be individuals that drink PBR and don't fit into my cookie-cutter assumptions. So there's that.

The reason I don't drink it is because I don't like it.

Have you ever considered simply not going to shitty bars that force you to make that choice?

The PBR your dad drank was not the beer you're drinking now. Your nostalgia is misplaced.

Sometimes the ladies just want to dance to 80s and 90s...and those bars typically do not have the best selection. Sacrifices were made for the long game.
