yep i grew up North Jersey and there was the Pabst and Bud brewery in Newark. Its all we drank and was in every bar. That was drinking "local" then.

I once asked a fat old redneck the same question at a trailer park I was camping at, his reply: " Because everything else is weasel piss."

True story, and I thought it was so damn funny that I started drinking PBR every once in a while and giving my friends the same answer when they asked why

sometimes pale, fizzy, alcoholic, and doesn't taste like much are all good things. The price is right too. Sometimes, after a long hard shift at work - wherever one may work - you just want a beer, and what beer it is exactly doesn't matter too much. Of course, for those times I usually just drink whatever is cheap, PBR just happens to be so.

I feel like what a lot of people don't realize is that there's a time and a place for everything. PBR isn't inherently bad, it just has a negative reputation because it's cheap, and associated with a certain sector of society that most people like to take the piss out of for no real, good reason. A lot of opinions about PBR aren't actual opinions about PBR, they're "lol PBR sucks because beer and hipsters (am i saying the thing right, guys?)"

Many people say they don't like it because it's "cool" and "edgy" to say they don't like it.

If you've drank it and actually don't dig it, that's fine, but I feel that most animosity towards it is nothing more than a meme, a cultural trope.

I actually like PBR and at $14-$17 a 30 pack its a great price . I go through a 30 a month mixing it in with other beer. Non craft friends like it too if I do not have any wheat around. Used to get $1 PBR and a shot of Jack back in the day with a good local Jazz band. Great at tailgates and bringing to see bands.

I use PBR as a Baseline beer. If it is not as good as PBR then its not worth buying. I have bought many $12+ six packs that are not near as good as PBR.

    Enjoy

Cuz the bar I like has 1.50 pbr pints. I'm actually on my way there for the first time in months. Funny that this thread shows up now.

I live in the heart of the hipster-est area in Philly and never had a PBR. I'm as opposite of a hipster as you can get (whatever that is), but don't really get the whole hipster bashing thing. They are just people and usually are the nicer of people you'd come across. Never felt that they judge me nor feel like I should judge them. Why can't strangers that don't have anything to do with you be what they want to be, real, fake, or anywhere in between?

Now, I really want to try a PBR and see what's all the ridicules and bitching are all about. I'll pretend I'm drinking with this hipster:

Nothing beats drinking PBR around the campfire on a cold Fall evening after day of squirrel hunting!

Well, partly for sentimental reason. It's kind of the beer I grew up with. It was cheap and accessible. But I still drink it sometimes during the summer when I want something very cold and light. And, it certainly helps to stretch the beer budget dollars!

Typically? I don't. But there's a great hillbilly bar in town where you can get one for 2.50 a tallboy. That's reason enough.
