People drink it to get drunk. Personally, I can't stomach the stuff. It's too damn sweet and taste awful. Even when I drank AAL's on a regular basis, I never liked it. More for those who enjoy it.

It's cheap, and tastes (to me obviously) alright. It's good if I'm trying to get drunk at a party.

Oh, and obviously I'm a hipster.

Both PBR and Lonestar are made by the same brewery. PBR rates much higher according to the avg. reviews. on BA. Being that the are they same type lager and from the same brewery it would be interesting to blind taste these two. Betcha couldn't tell the difference.....even with a neck tatto and handle bar mustache. I originally began to drink it cuz it wasn't BMC. But still cheap. Not very good. But it's kinda like a Big Mac. You know there is much better out there but sometime you just gotta go for junk food.

Thanks for the detailed answer to my question as to what Pabst really is today. Very detailed. I had also heard that shortly after InBev purchased Budweiser, Pabst went on a telemarketing blitz asking those they called if they knew who the largest American Owned brewer was, now that Budweiser no longer was. People supposedly were guessing Sam Adams, New Belgium, etc. And the caller would correct them and tell them "no" that Pabst was the largest American brewer. Somewhat deceptive?

Another thing I've heard on more than one occasion, and don't know if it ever has been verified is that supposedly what is inside of a Pabst can and what's inside a Hamm's can is the identical product. Has anyone else heard this, or can verify it? I don't really drink PBR, but I do buy Hamm's as that is my "go to" cooking beer. I boil my brats in Hamm's before grilling them. It's usually right around $9 for a case.

Not to hijack the PBR thread, but this is an intersting and one of the most detailed articles I found on Rheingold from the Stern School of Business. This is the incarnation from 12 years ago.

So when Yuengling and Boston vie for the title "Largest American-owned Brewery," are they ignoring Pabst because a Greek-native bought it or because they're a "virtual" brewery?

It tastes better than a BMC, it's cheap, and a lot of local places do happy hour specials on it/have cheap pounders. I can't hate on a cold PBR.

I've been drinking PBR since I started drinking. I have a fridge full of craft beer with 6 or more PBRs at all times. I love my craft brew but sometimes a PBR hits the spot and sometimes it has its place like out on the boat fishing. And if I'm out somewhere that doesn't have a craft brew I like, I'd rather not be a dick by refusing to have a beer because its not good enough for me....they always have PBR, at list in WI. Lastly, it'll get ya drunk. Cheers!

I'm never in that place when it's that time. Don't like the taste of AALs.

At this point of my beer drinking life, I'd rather have no beer than drink a non-craft beer because it's cheap.

Whoa, he got me good. I thought he was serious and just pretending to be sarcastic just in case someone called him out. you know, like double sarcasm. Maybe I was giving him too much credit or maybe I was the one over thinking things. Either way, PBR rules lol.

It tastes good for what it is, and I once in a while get a craving for it?

I have never had this one. I've had Budweiser, I assume it's similar?
