Wouldn't it make more sense for hipsters to drink craft beer instead of PBR?

    Can't it be both?

I'll never understand how someone drinking PBR can dog on Budweiser. PBR is garbage. Hipsterness makes it double garbage. Rednecks >>>> Hipsters.

I read all of this, hearing it in the emperors voice.

I just really don't like PBR.. I never have thought it tasted good and i would rather just not drink..

Depends of who "they" are  . Forbes calls Pabst "North America's largest privately-held brewer" (and Metropoulos & Co. is a US private equity firm regardless of the the place of birth of one of its owners), the craft Brewers Association annual "Top 50 Overall U.S. Brewing Companies" puts Pabst at #3, and Beer Marketers Insights also put Pabst ahead of Yuengling and Boston in it's list of the Major Suppliers of Beer sold in the US.

But in most cases Pabst is left out because it is because it's not a "brewer" or a "brewery". It was often left off even when still owned by the US-based Kalmanovitz Charitable Trust (formerly S&P), and Pabst even put out a Press Release and "Survey" after InBev bought AB objecting to being left out of the articles that claimed the sale made Boston and Yuengling the largest US breweries.

Similarly, Constellation's Crown Imports is now* a wholly-owned American company that sells more beer (Corona, Modelo, etc) than Pabst, Yuengling or Boston Beer Co., but the technicality with them is that their brewery is in Mexico.

    * After AB-InBev bought Groupo Modelo and had to sell off Modelo's share of Crown,
their largest brewery, and the US rights to their brands to satisfy the DoJ Anti-Trust rules.

PBR is consistently cheap everywhere you go. Every once in a while my friend and I will split a ridiculously cheap sixer of it for once our palate is wrecked and there is no point in drinking more craft. I don't have an issue with PBR.

As for the topic of Hipsters,

Why let someone else's lifestyle bother you when you can be doing your own thing? Even if something as classic as Founders Breakfast Stout became the new hipster phenomenon I still would completely care less what is going on in the world of hipsters.

The same reason I drink Miller, Bud and Coors. Oh wait, I don't drink PBR or any of those. Never mind.

Whoa!? Quite a bit of hipster bashing eh? Presumably from people who were either labeled like me as Gen X, or the early Yuppies of the 80's:grinning: enough of that...Moving on . I drink it Because its Americana Plain and simple, much like the beer. Its makes me laugh to when people say , you're drinking that crap!? when the are drinking Bud/Busch/Miller/Coors. Really? Its my Strohs alternative. Which is hard to find anymore.

We did a blinded tasting of AAL's and I thought Hamms was far superior to all competitors including Pabst. It is definitely the way to go.

You seem to be upset that people are judging you without knowing you, which sounds a lot like what you are doing to a whole group of people based on this post. How do you know these people don't genuinely like the things they like?

I drink it because money doesn't grow on trees and it is a better AAL.

My brother hands it to me in his house or backyard, it's the only non-light beer alternative at a gathering, it's the best on tap alternative...same with yuengling, mhl or bud. I'm with folks I love or at least like - this is what is available. Why not quaff? Wouldn't it be reverse hipsterism to refuse? As Luther put it, "When the devil says to you: do not drink, answer him: I will drink, and right freely, just because you tell me not to."

I did, quite a bit...12-15 years ago. $0.75 a can in a college town bar, we were all over it. It's been over a decade since I've had one, though.

I only drink PBR when it's $2 a half quart at the bar. It's the only shit beer other than Boxer Lager that I drink.

I don't go out of my way for it, but sometimes local places have them on sale for pretty riduculous places, like 2 bucks for a tallboy, and I'm just in a "I could kind of go for a PBR" kind of mood. I'm sure others can relate.

Well, I grew up in the land of cheese, and my uncle actually worked at Pabst. I still drink it because I like it, and it reminds me of when I was a kid. In all seriousness, I can generally only enjoy 2 craft brews ( most decent ipas have between 7-9 abv) and then I go to a session beer. In fact, all my old favs are good and I enjoy them. High Life, Pabst, Point special if I can get it etc....

So, unless I have a growler of Jacks Abbey session lager in my hand, I don't mind the traditional lagers to make it a nice long nite,
