I regularly partake of several other "Pabst Brands", but P.B.R. has never done anything for my taste buds, and trust me, I've *tried* to get to like it. It's in virtually every bar and it's CHEAP! The cheap part I like a lot!

It BMC, and there are much worse out there. It's really a harmless brew, drink one if you want who really cares what anyone thinks. If I'm going BMC I'll go to Miller lite, and take the lower calories, but if it's ice cold it doesn't matter, and I mean ice cold, the colder it is the better off you are.

Schlitz 70's formula is 2X the cost of PBR, it's not 2X worthy not in the least. I don't believe you could tell one from another.

“Schlitz 70's formula is 2X the cost of PBR” How much are they charging for Schlitz 1960s formula beer near you? I bought a case of Schlitz 1960s beer 2-3 years ago for less than 20 bucks (including sales tax). That was the cheapest beer purchase for me in decades!

    Cheers!

P.S. They have stopped distributing Schlitz 1960s formula area in my area (SEPA) for some reason. Maybe it doesn’t sell well here since this is Yuengling country?

Placements (and I would assume sales) of the retro, "Gusto"-branded Schlitz are way down from where they initially were, and the price has really crept-up, locally. It's not quite 2x as much as nc41 reports, but being a natural-born cheapskate I would gravitate toward that P.B.R. if I were down his way!

Jon, I actually had a chance to talk to two sales representatives of the wholesale distributor that handles Pabst/Schlitz in the Philly area during an event of Philly Beer Week (June 2013). The conversation sort of went this way:

Me: I enjoy drinking Schlitz 1960s beer every once in a while. It has been over a couple years since I have seen it at retail beer distributors

    Sales guys: Silence

Me: Do you guys still sell Schlitz 1960s formula beer

Sales guys: Yeah, it is still part of our portfolio

Me: Why can’t I find this beer anywhere?

Sales guys: We don’t sell a lot of it

Me (to myself): I give up!

    Cheers!

    Jack

PBR is around $5.99 a 12 pk, I've seen 18pks of PBR at Walmart for $9.99. Schlitz 60's is right at $9.99 a 12 pk. They're a toss up taste wise, I can't see paying more just because the can is different.

My Uncle Woody. Always had one for the road when I was just a little guy riding around with him. Been a fan of PBR since I was about 5 years old and as shitty as it is, I love it. I've even purposely returned to a gay bar that was at first a surprise but they had PBR on tap. Good times.

If I want a lot of beer for cheap it's my go to. However, I never really drink it.

PBR is perfectly ok but Naragansett and Genny are better cheap options IMO and as as far as retro brands Schlitz tastes better. Still, hats off to Pabst for keeping many retro brands alive so I cannot hate.

PBR was too sweet thirty years ago. It's still sweet. I was at a liquior store a few years ago when PBR was being tested. I told the woman conducting the taste test that my father would drink it. She informed me is become a popular beer and she usually does tastings at art shows, museums, and festivals. This must be where the "hipsters" are at.

That sort of conversation sounds all-too familiar, Jack!

I get a chance to needle the local Pabst / P.B.R. events representative all the time (but he enjoys it), and although he's a younger man he has been in the biz for a while. He really liked 'Gusto' and Oly 95%, and doesn't get it, either.

(And if anyone can tell me why Stag is their next big thing, I'm all ears. Maybe to promote "Stag Parties"?)

It reminds me of my buddy that I list to cancer 5 years ago. It was the beer we drank when we were young. To Cliff.

Where are you buying 6-pack tall boys of PBR for $2.80? They run pretty much the same price here. No $6 PRB 12 packs that I have ever seen.
