I really like Hennepin as well as St. Feuillien Saison, but they don't really compare directly to one another. Hennepin is drier and lemony to me, while the St. Feuillien was a bit fuller bodied but more complex while still being near the top of the style. A great example of the breadth of flavors you can get out of good saisons.

Great with foods, especially cheeses. Tend to prefer the drier ones, but always quenching and a lot of leeway in the style for improvisation. Fun to taste a bunch side-by-side - they all share similarities but can be so unique in its own way.

Desire to drink seasonally brought me to them, awesome taste keeps me coming back. Perfect after a long winter of heavy brews. Prefer drinking them while sitting in the shade on a hot afternoon.
And I like the idea it's an old classic style and has it's roots in old farmhouse breweries from years gone past, I'm a sucker for anything vintage. Plus, well, Belgium man, Belgium!

    Good luck with the thesis!

As Hemingway would say "I do not drink the saisons because the saisons are not pleasing to me. I drink the whiskey and the soda because the whiskey and the soda please me."

Domestically these are readily available in 6ers or 4 packs...Great Divide Collette (my personal favorite), New Holland Golden Cap, GI Sofie, Victory Swing Session, Ithaca Groundbreak, & 21st Amendment sneak attack. Wish more breweries would offer this style...

...and I like saisons because they are thirst quenching yet complex.

    Because it's beer...

And to try something new and different. I'm primarily a pilsner, IPA, and porter guy, but I do love trying new and different beers and expanding my horizons. I don't see myself changing to saisons as my preferred choice of beer style, but I think it's good to keep the mind and taste buds open to new and different beer tasting experiences.

I think this is a good description of why I like them as we'll. A beer manager who was a former wine manager described them to me as 'the beer for wine drinkers'. The style varies and some can be heavily hopped and otherwise flavored but my favorites are versatile, good with food, dry, and with their own complexities. A good dry rose is a good comparison.

Because I enjoy the funky, grassy, yeast flavors in the hot summer and that they are typically low in ABV. Nice refreshing drink.

Ooh, yeah I forgot about that . . . but saisons pair very well with some of my favorite foods, like pasta primavera and various seafood dishes.

I like all types of saisons whether they're more wheat-forward and have a sweeter, rich flavor or when they're brewed with Brettanomyces and have that barnyard funk. I also like it when saisons are high in carbonation like The Bruery's saisons or Brasserie DuPont's. It doesn't stop there though. There are now black saisons, of which I've only tried a handful of examples but the only one I've really like so far has been the Evil Twin/Stillwater/Stone collab The Perfect Crime. All the others I've had have had this chalky mouthfeel I don't enjoy. I also haven't had many saisons that were especially hop-forward but I definitely would love to try some (suggestions?). Oh, and let's not forget about the tart saisons like the ones Saint Somewhere does (Lectio Divina) and then the ones that are spice-driven like Saison Athene also by Saint Somewhere. Jeez, come to think of it, saison is a really versatile style. Whether a lot of the examples I've named are "true" representations of the style is irrelevant because they're all delicious. Cheers.

Without getting long winded and repeating what has most definitely been stated by others- they're seriously the most versatile and open ended style. I've had saisons that I swear could've been stouts, others that tasted like a gueuze, some that have serious heft, and some that were extremely light bodied and very quenching. I would have to say that it is definitely my favorite beer style.

Oh, and because those Oxbow boys know how to f**kin party down. Some damn fine beers they're brewin' up in the woods.

I enjoy Saisons because I find them fairly easier to drink while still getting a nice bitter taste and can be pretty refreshing in any weather.

    What exactly is your major?

And to help you out, I enjoy them because of their unpredictability. Meaning you never know if they're going to have that classic farmhouse flavor, that spicyness or whatever other wide variety of flavors they have. Plus they're great on a hot day.

I wish saisons were sessionable as the original saisons were intended to be :slight_frown:.
