As a brewer I like the style because I don't have temperature control other than AC in the house, live in Texas, and don't plan on breaking the bank to keep the place at 68 all summer.

Because they are made of beer?

Me, too. I really wish there were more quality, low-ABV saisons readily available and in smaller formats. It can't be that hard to produce that kind of beer on a large scale, you'd think, right?

As a result, it may not be perfect but I really enjoyed Victory Swing because it fits that bill.

One of the few beers I still will buy from Jester King is their low ABV saison. (Clocks in at 2.9%.) Very quaffable on a hot Texas summer afternoon.

Same reason why I eat or drink anything else. It tastes good.......it's not that complicated.

As I live next to Tired Hands I guess I'm just lucky to be near a place that does Saison's right.

Yo Prov. I think Tank 7 is VERY sessionable, in the best sense of the word. Educate me on the original stuff, please. I haven't delved much into the history of saisons, even as much as I like them. Links, directions and/or thoughts. Thanx brother.

I think I will echo many comments above, but here goes... The saison style is one of my favorites and traditionally is the style of beer (typically Hennepin) that I pair with my first grill out of the season. First off, saisons are extremely approachable/drinkable. They are also very refreshing and yet complex. There is also a good amount of variability from saison to saison which only adds to the quality of the style in general in my opinion. To specifically address your thesis, I would imagine that saisons have become popular again because of the combination of the craft beer boom (vast majority of--if not all--saisons would fall into this category) and their approachability/drinkability I mention above. Good luck on your thesis...sounds like a fun one!

I drink saisons because Tired Hands makes them so stinking tasty. Balanced creativity at its finest.

I'm an admitted saison junkie (drinking stillwater stateside saison right now). I love the inexplicable nature of saison. I love that, despite being very familiar with the style, I still struggle to describe it succinctly. I love that it is easily the most versatile style when pairing with food. I love that I can introduce wine drinkers to better beer with saison. I love that saisons have a sense of place, that they are somehow evocative of their terroir, to borrow a wine term. I love that they are complex yet drinkable. I love the mystery behind them. They can remind us that no matter how much we strive to understand and control brewing chemistry, there is still some unknown alchemy that makes them special. I love that saisons (especially the yeast) requires careful attention and diligent work from a skilled brewer to bring the beer to its greatest potential. That dedication is apparent in all good saison. Yep, gotta love some saison. Oh, one last thing... I love that bad saisons remind me of just how good good saisons are.
