To see what I should be drinking, new releases, etc. I love buying beer so now I can plan better on what's worth it and what's not.

I use it to learn about styles and read about people's thoughts on certain beers.

Just a thought, there should be a feature on the site where you can select 2 or more beers and get a birds eye comparison.

Reviews, releases, news, trading, events, sharing and interacting... All the stuff BeerAdvocate is good at providing. Really enjoy it since I've joined earlier in the year. Definitely became more knowledgable about beer(or at least I think I have).

I use BA, RB, and Untappd for different reasons. I like it that BA lets you link photos and I usually link them from my Untappd account. But there is one feature that RB has that BA does not and I wish they would adopt it. I like it that RB lets you post where you bought the beer. That can be very helpful when I'm traveling or looking for a particular beer.

BA seems to have the most nerds who don't even really drink beer, they can talk a good game though. Kind of like analytics and sports.

Beer Advocate has everything I need from a beer site/app in one place--and all these needs are handled in a way that feels fun, effortless, and respectful.

First, I need ratings and reviews available on a mobile device, for when I need to choose among new options in a tavern, restaurant, or store. The 100-point rating system is super simple to understand, with reviews available if more insight is needed.

Second, I need a tracker of the beers I've consumed and how much I appreciated them, which is what rating beers does for me--since I'm an untrained amateur whose tastes definitely change over time, I don't pretend my ratings have any reliability other than to let me know how much I enjoyed a beer the first time I had it. But there it is, a pretty darn complete list of every new beer I've tried since signing up.

Third, on that occasion when I might be imbibing alone at home, Beer Advocate provides both an informational backdrop for the beer I'm drinking and a social connection and community of like-minded others. You folks inform me, entertain me, and just plain crack me up!

Reviews & news (mostly regional). BA has helped in me being aware of and tracking down hard to find beers in my area. On the flip side, it's easy to feel like you need to try beers based on hype, which is sometimes disappointing.

To find out about new releases so i can stress out over them, then never find them until i have no money.

I use BA mostly for the forums, along with a handful of other sites it's a good resource for keeping track of and discussing new releases. Along with a couple other sites I also browse ratings to get a general idea on whether or not I'll like a beer.

Ratebeer uses a percentile ranking. If you want to compare the actual average ratings look at the weighted average. On many super hyped beers ratebeer actually has a lower average rating.

This describes my experience so much until recently, except I usual find them and that's why I have no money. More recently I've decided to stop putting in serious effort into look for new releases. If I see them I get them, if not, oh well. It's saved me both time and money. Regular bottle shares lately have helped too.
