Mostly for the quality/quantity/accuracy of the user reviews, which are, surprisingly, frequently on point.

Also, though, to complain on the message boards about bad beer, bad service, and hipsters.

Simply put, because this is an immense source of information that I find useful.

Also, this is an even bigger source of hilarious, dumb, and frustrating banter.

many, many reasons, and I use other sites/apps also, but one of the key features I like is to see where my rating landed against the norm. I like to revisit beers that I either rated too high or low against the mean....

LOL!! great question that i am still pondering, since being actively engaged I have met a bunch of great people I don't know, my disposable income - not great in the first place and hidden from family has remarkably been reduced due to purchasing things I never considered, family time has been greatly reduced due to surfing here, my waist line has become the constant battle, I wake up foggy more, my wife is wondering what the heck, and I can no longer drink cheap simple adjunct lagers with the common folk nor can I even look at them!!!!

So why you ask!!! Because the end result tastes so good!!

It is oddly pornographic isn't it. I feel the same way participating in guitar groups, gun groups, etc.

I'm a new member, but already I am enjoying the conversations, vast knowledge and finding out about new things I haven't tried. I still use Untappd for rating, but enjoy this more.

Mostly to look at the ratings/reviews but also to read the beer news/talk.
Nevertheless, I have to say that for European breweries/beers in general, Ratebeer is always ahead and has a larger database (certainly due to the higher number of European users).
Would be nice to have a part of the forum as a Public Relation tool for the brewers.

I started using it cause I saw it at the bottle shop I frequent. All these scores and such I was curious and checked it out. Over time I've learned a great deal, gotten to track where I've been and what I've had. Even learned a bit about the business side of the industry. There also isn't that weird pressure to 'check-in' like with Untapped and other related apps that just seem silly.

I have gotten plenty of places to visit on trips too which have been fun and interesting for sure too.

I used this site for 2+ years to read beer ratings and reviews. Then I signed up about a year ago and use it for the same, plus talking on here and a lot of entertainment. Have acquired some trading partners too.

Some of the shit people say on here blows me away; it's fun and funny. I'll never forget (and it only happened a month or so ago) the thread of Bourbon County's being too big this year. It's a hair more than a pint and the guys complaining about how big it is and "they want less". Again, posts that blow me away are pure gold comedy.

This is the only site I use other than a quick peek at beersmith for a little more home brew discussion but this site meets everything I would think necessary for a beer community. Plus I like reading what other people say on different subjects, helps understand the community as a whole, like I've learned that a lot of people can be very snobby about the beers they've gotten their hands on or the lengths people are willing to go to get certain ones ie. Bourbon county. But it's all interesting to read and see being the avid people watcher I am haha.

BA is for fun and entertainment! Untappd is great too, but I only use that one with a small group of friends. It's simpler than BA, and not as comprehensive, IMO.
