Definitely should have been titled, "The 40 Most Delicious IPAs and Stouts". Give or take the few that weren't.

This is one way we are blessed here in MN.

While technically not in the same city, close enough (well, New Ulm is a drive...):

    http://waldmannbrewery.com (St. Paul)

    https://utepilsbrewing.com (Minneapolis)

    and, the Granddaddy...

    https://www.schellsbrewery.com (New Ulm)

Most MN craft brewers offer one or more lagers in their regular and/or seasonal lineup.

You're not a douche your new to this site.
Read about different lager styles, explore other stores, ask questions etc.

I think you hit the nail-on-the-head as to why craft lages are not as popular as ales, and if you went back to the 1960's you might agree that Bud used to taste a lot better than now.

Start by trying other beers from a brewery you like, try lager styles you like from other places.
Quality craft lagers beat the dilly dilly all day.

My wife and I were in St. Louis for the day and stopped in to Urban Chestnut for lunch. I have been getting 4 packs of Zwickel and really enjoy it. I didn't drink one on tap but i grabbed a 4 of Stammtisch at the brewery. Oh boy that is good. Wish i tried one on tap. I love Konig and Bitburger but that Stammtisch was fresh. Good food there too.

Oh, I'm not underestimating anything, and my cynicism seems to be at an all time high lately, but it's still really rudimentary stuff nonetheless.

Schell's has been on my radar for quite some time now, and I was recently fortunate to being on the receiving end of a bunch of bottles and cans. They did not disappoint :sunglasses:.

A majority of the world's beer drinkers are lager drinkers. Even in Belgium and England.

I'd venture that 65% of my beers consumed each year are in the lager camp. I still believe beer to largely be a refreshment beverage - and lager beers, for my tastes, are what I reach for when there's drinking that needs to be done and the weather is warm.

    Winter is another story

While a good analogy, I hope my input here is not as inane as the POTUS' tweets.

@BurritoRepublic, permit me to suggest that you view the aspect of lager love/hate via various beer markets.

For the general/overall beer market beer consumers absolutely love lagers!! For example the top selling beers in the US are Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light and Bud. Lagers are also extremely popular worldwide. The number 1 selling beer in the UK is Carling Lager. The number 1 selling beer in Belgium is Jupiler which is a lager. Etc.

For the broader craft beer market lagers are BIG sellers. There are lots of beer consumers buying a lot of beers like Sam Adams Boston Lager, Yuengling Lager, etc.

For the beer geek market it is true that lagers are not quite as popular. The beer geeks prefer to drink beers that are more bold in nature, beer styles like IPAs, Imperial Stouts, Barrel aged beers, etc.

The beer geek segment of the beer market is very, very small but they represent a considerable portion of sites like Beer Advocate.

    Cheers!

Stammtisch is a recent discovery of mine too. I recently purchased my second 4-pack. Just a delicious, well made German Pils! Urban Chestnut does those traditional lager, pils, and hefe very well.

Jeff, did you get a chance to visit Buoy while there? I drank two glasses of Buoy Czech Pilsners at the brewery and I thought that beer was very good!

    Cheers!

I had the Czech Lager and Helles at Lunch. Two Dunkels with Dinner. The Helles was the weakest of those, but still welcome to find it.

I've had it two times. Once in a bottle and once on draft. The first time was in the bottle, and it was good but didn't blow me away. But when I had it on draft it was blissful. I wish it made its way down to NC.
