The real question is actually , what legitimate news story could have been reported on instead of pandering to an already ignorant, uneducated majority of the populace with a story about Cheetos flavored ice cream..... There’s that cynicism we discussed in another thread coming out.
But anyway, back to beer, I’m loving the new to Maine Lager of the lakes from Bell’s right now...

If you can, get yourself some Bohemian Pilsner from Rock Art in VT. My friend who travels to VT for work always asks what I want for beer, and I always request Rock Art Bohemian Pilsner. Small brewery, outstanding beer.

You could add Augsburger to your list:

AALs are what constitute much of the US beer market. Cheap, plain, no kick, not much flavor variety - no excitement. There are bound to be craft AALs that are better than Bud, but many feel no interest to seeking them. If you're going to drink something different why be satisfied with slightly different?

No kidding right, Urquell is a stunning beer if it's fresh, or fresh enough. I'm in Myrtle Beach this week and Gordon Bierch makes a terriffic Chez Pils, and it's a few days old.

I've never been a fan of looking at beer as a split between ale and lager. One time someone asked me if I liked ales or lagers and I didn't even know what to say. There's definitely a lot of lager-love on BeerAdvocate, but it's hard to say if it's a very vocal minority rather than a reflection of the overall attitude. It definitely feels like things have gotten better here, but there are still the occasional comments like, "not bad for a lager," or "it's bland, but it's a lager after all." (Even though I understand the context of an English ale producer fighting for business due to import lagers being the preferred beverage) brewery messaging like this doesn't help:

Are you suggesting an ale top 250 and lager top 250?

I must be in the minority, I certainly don't hate lagers at all.

I would argue that you are in the majority.

Below is what I stated in post #54:

"For the general/overall beer market beer consumers absolutely love lagers!! For example the top selling beers in the US are Bud Light, Miller Lite, Coors Light and Bud. Lagers are also extremely popular worldwide. The number 1 selling beer in the UK is Carling Lager. The number 1 selling beer in Belgium is Jupiler which is a lager. Etc."

    Cheers!

I am just drinking a lager now, first one in years. I was not expecting much, and was not therefore disappointed. Sure, I could seek some better examples, but just not my thing.

Stone Corral's boho pils is amazing as well, since bells just got distro in NJ I finally got some lager of the lakes. Great great stuff.

I think its just the newcomer "I love IPAs that taste like juice" not beer people that hate lagers. They'll see the light one day or they'll just leave beer all together. I've noticed a very big difference in what people like and what they consider "craft" depends on when they got into this hobby we love.

I just traded a bunch of hops from our yearly VT vacation for a bunch of live oak pils : )

Hmm, it's a difficult question. Slightly different? Some don't know there's a difference other than price, I'd venture most beer drinkers might not even know what a craft beer joint is let alone ever being in one. I'm sure the majority probably is content buying their beer at Walmart or Costco, it's the cheapest around. It's interisting introducing someone who drinks AALs and put a Pils Urquell in their hands or a local brew from Old Mecklenburg or Red Oak.

Yes, they do. That would be a caveat to my statement. Thank you.
