Grass is always greener. (unless you know where to find outstanding Illinois Pilsner)
Hey, only Cheeseheads are allowed to use that phrase -- make up yer own. And aren't you supposed to be disparaging Hoosiers where you're at?

Besides, there's a couple cross-over threads where Wisconsinites are making beer runs to this side of the border, so the phenomenon isn't one-sided (so to speak).

An interesting listen. I appreciate him admitting that he's thinner-skinned as regards to feedback on his beers. I would hate to think that some ignorant drinker's ill-informed bitching caused him to not make or remake a Thumbprint through the years.

It's hard to argue with their continued sales success and the choice of beers released, but I do wonder if a seasonal re-release of Edel Pils and Hometown Blonde within the past 5 years would've surprised them with its sales success (given the newly found appreciation for pils in the larger craft market).

Hometown Blonde is likely my favorite pilsner produced in America. I would love for it to replace Two Women, which I like quite well

No, Two Women (my favorite year around NG beer) is most definitely not a pilsner. If I were to compare it to German beers I'd call it a festbier before calling it a helles.

Because we are already awash in 50 IBU pilsners?
    Because they don't do 4x16's?

Thanks for providing that link, it was a very interesting listen!

Dan and I have in common our love of Czech Saaz hops. I have a Bohemian Pilsner in the primary right now and I used plenty of Czech Saaz hops for the flavor & aroma additions.

This page puts Victory Prima Pils at 64. :astonished: Though that does sound high to me, and no other 3rd party site agrees, though many put it in the high 40s. Pilsner Urquell, after all, is 40.

Urquell is 40. Pivo Pils is 40. There’s no way prima is much more.

Anyway, didn’t come here to get into an IBU argument. Just wanted to state that I don’t believe we have a bitter pilsner problem like Grounder was suggesting.

Yeah, my "44" figure was what they quoted in the 1980s (double-checked w/the current info and changed it to 40 with an edit ).

    Yeah, I agree with that.

(If anything, I'd say we have an under-hopped pilsner problem...:grimacing: ... at least, based on the traditional US brewing industry definition.)

I mean… IBU is the worst beer metric in existence when it comes to IPA, but it typically is relatively accurate for other styles. What Pilsners formed your opinion?
