I'd pay $50 for a bottle of a BA Darkness.

I am willing to give them a free pass until they open the new brewery. The masses have been clamouring for it for quite some time but at some point if you are not in the lead you have fallen behind.

With Surlys pricing, it would be at least 60$.

At that price I wouldn't buy it. I would however pay 10 bucks for a pour or two.:grinning:

My, how gracious of you. I'm sure Surly appreciates your leniency.

3 Floyds sold a couple thousand bottles at $50 each last weekend and I'm sure they could have easily sold double or triple that if they'd been available.

Good lord, let's not encourage that sort of pricing insanity.

There's some truth to this. New Glarus, CW, TG have have been great in the past year. Even Lift Bridge, Steel Toe, Indeed, and Town Hall barrel aged offerings have been stellar. The bar has been raised.

Not to mention a certain brewery a mere 3 hours drive south, that seems to be "toppling" darkness's reign as midwests best stout.

At least someone can see my point....8 years is a long time....breweries are always expanding, that can't be an excuse

Topping goliath is 1/20 the size of surly and barrel aged assassin is on top of the world right now it seems

Eh, sorry 'bout that, I get a little lippy after a few beers! I definitely agree that BA Darkness is long overdue, but Surly seems to be the sort of brewery that is going to do what they want to do, no matter what the craft beer community is clammering for.

I have no idea about BA Darkness but with all the different beers at the tap takeovers in the past 5 months or so I would have to think they are trying to figure out how to extend their current lineup. One could hope with the second bottling of Darkness they decided to throw some in barrels.

Surly and TG's issues are totally different, as are the rules for on-site sales between the states, not to mention the growler rule. The room alone at the brewery does not really exist for an extensive barrel program from what I have seen. When the new brewery opens, I am sure they will have many BA variations on tap from time to time.

If Surly wants to do a BA Darkness, my guess it can only be done at the brewery on Darkness Day. If they want to send it to Distro, it would need to make economic sense, and while bombers are cool...and cans, bottling BA Darkness would blow the $20 price point out of the water.

What about the eighth anniversary? Perfect way to trial some BAing...

They have barrel aged and released many beers already including Five, Syx, Seviin, Pentagram, and the upcoming Eight beer. Just no BA Imperial Stout.

But myyyyyaaaaam...... I want a BA imperial stout!

Seriously, though, if anyone at surly actually read this thread, my guess is they flipped off their computer screen and laughed aloud.
