Tonight's sampling on tap: BFM Abbaye Bon Chien Zymatore Sherry Barrel De la Senne Zinnebir Xmas Mikkeller Arh Hvad De Molen Lief & Leed Dieu Du Ciel Isseki Nicho also tasted ToOl Jule Maelk walked out with a bottle of Imp Biscotti Bourbon Barrel & 1L Growler of Brewer's Art Zeke's Coffee Ale, someone threw a Scaldis Prestige de Nuits 2011 in my bag too. Happy beer night! On a way sadder note, found out this evening that Robin(a fellow Barfly) from Max's died unexpectedly yestarday from an apparent heart attack, leaving behind a wife and teenage son. A tremendous guy who loved his family, racing, kind things and craft beer. If you do to raise one up for Robin. Staff and friends from Max's will be putting something together to remember Robin. Talk to Casey or Bob if interested. Peace to Robin and family from a fellow patner in crime.
Zounds! if that's a 750 it's a $45 toss in, very sweet indeed. I thought the regular Prestige to be even tastier, the De Nuits while good, didn't work as well with the wine barrel notes as the regular and it's oak barrel notes. Would revisit, but the entry price hurts me. Merry/happy.
Yep. I keep on having to up my food score rating (I think I originally gave it a 2), as it just keeps on getting better and better. For years the only thing I would ever order there were the wings, as I afraid to get anything else. The last couple of years I was in Baltimore I ordered the pulled pork sliders, the crab cake sliders, the greek nachos, the pork nachos, the fish tacos, the pork tacos and their heart attack inducing cheese and potato mash. They still have a long way to go before anyone is going to confuse them with Teresa's Next Door up in Wayne, but considering how bad the food used to be there (9 or 10 years ago), it's amazing how much the fare has improved.
I hereby consider all of your helpful information and beer knowledge to be rubbish until you order the tot bowl.
The tot bowl was what I was referring to there at the end. Isn't that the one where, on the menu, they describe it as "just what the doctor ordered.... or then again, mabye not." Isn't that the dish that comes wtih tots, cheese, bacon, onions and sour cream? Assuming that's the one, I've ordered it many times... probably too many times, my cardiologist would say. I think here in Eugene, it's probably illegal for a restaurant to offer something like that on the menu. :-)
Ok, you're officially reinstated. Now bring it in for a hug, big guy. And I'm not sure if there's bacon in it, but there's definitely pulled pork BBQ in there.
i had the bison burger sliders. god i was so drunk from the friday 32oz for $6 happy hour. I was in heaven!
Come on. He obviously was just typing, not thinking about that. The only thing tacky is you making him feel bad and then probably me then writing this.
I don't go to Max's for the food, but I eat there often. Perfectly acceptable and never feel bad afterward, at least from the food
Same here. However, there was a time I tried to make sure I ate before heading over, as I really didn't want to order off the menu there. Things have improved to the point that I've even taken my GF there and ordered food for the both of us. That would have been unimagineable 10 years ago.
I was lucky enough to meet Robin and his wife earlier this year before my trip to DFH. They told me about Burley Oak, which I will always thank him for. He became a good friend and one I would always keep an eye out for at Max's. Now that I think about, I met them during the Terrapin Tap Takeover (23 taps), and we talked about what all we wanted to try and they let me share in their beers and samples. Between us, we still didn't get to go through the whole list. He even gave me a full Barley Ryne, because it was a mispour and he didn't like it. He told some great stories and will definitely be missed.
