Why is Alesmith beer always old?

I've never pulled the trigger on an Alesmith beer because they all look so dusty.

 

You guys realize that those barrel aged beers don't even see distribution in so cal? They are mostly tap room only through BPT or eventbrite. Also, the variants of speedway that have seen distribution have been only kegs (I know somewhere in the mid-west or somewhere they do see some barrel aged stuff but that is due to old contracts). But it does suck to see old IPA's, Alesmith still sits on shelfs in so-cal but that is due to people not buying it.
