Waldo's Special is a really nice Imperial IPA, and Lagunitas is a respectable brewer. Why are they too timid to bottle it? Knee Deep and Stone have some great Imperial IPAs which they are glad to bottle.

I don't know. Maybe send them an email and ask them?

Lagunitas already bottles several very well thought of Imperial IPAs.

Yeah I think it has 0 to do with them being timid. Bottling capabilities for one, and I have to guess that if there was enough consumer demand for it they'd do it. Obviously people enjoy the draft only version of this, so, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just enjoy Maximus and Sucks

Interesting, timid is the last word I'd associate with Lagunitas and their way of dealing with the world, especially since over the some years now they have been one of the most rapidly growing and expanding breweries in the US.

Another guess is that what you've had is part of their "testing the market" for that beer and its even possible they could be "testing out" the new Chicago brewery and their distribution network from that location.

Timid? I hope they keep it out of bottles because as a good many limited releases prove, they merely attract beerier than thou hoarders. It's more fun to avoid the bottle chasers and keep a special release keg exclusive so you have to seek it out at a bar.
Go ahead, try hoarding it on tap. You'll be shitfaced.

Maybe Waldo would be to expensive in bottle format, Lagunitas is well known for their good pricing; I imagine a high priced six pack or bomber is not worth it to them. Where as a tap room can sell 12oz of Waldo for 7 or 8 dollars. Aside from that somethings are better off as annual or rotating treats.

Maybe they haven't brewed enough volume for it to make sense to distribute in bottles?

I had it last weekend and it was phenomenal.

They already bottle 3 imperial IPAs: Sucks, Hop Stoopid and Maximus. Then they have a huge line up of high gravity beers anyways. Wouldn't make a ton of sense to. That said, I wish they would replace Maximus with Waldo. Think it's a better beer all around.

I've seen some one try and do this with PTE, he had drunk about three pints and had another two or three in front of him full. Needless to say his girlfriend drove him home and he couldn't finish his last pints.

A local Dallas bar is advertising they have this on draught. Any way that it is fresh or would it have to be from the April release? Would like to try but not at 5 months old.

Exactly. It's part of Lagunitas' 420 celebration. The name Waldo ties in with the 420 origin story and why it's now customary (in certain circles) to smoke a joint at 4:20 pm. It's not uncommon (mostly for college students) to spend the day of April 20th (4/20 in the US - this really falls apart if you follow the rest of the world's dating scheme of day/month/year. Why would you celebrate 20/4?) smoking a lot of weed. And since this is something Lagunitas cares about (though not as much as Sweetwater), they brew a beer especially for it.

timidity being such a Lagunitas trait, that's gotta be it. [/sarcasm]
