Why no 16oz growlers?

After seeing that people are enjoying smaller formats (myself included) I started realizing that 64oz or 32oz of some beers is just too much to handle in a short amount of time. I like my 64oz for session IPA's or anything low abv or my 32oz for special release (pricier) beers and high abv beers. Why not make a 16 oz so if I get a 14% stout I don't need to fully commit to 32oz and finish it in one day? Also, it would save even more money dropping to a smaller format.

My local bottle shop offers 16 oz growlers. Nice to grab some stouts like you said.

Just today, I saw that this small brewery in Missouri - Main and Mill - is doing 16 oz. crowlers/cans of any draft beer to go

Love the concept/idea as it makes it much more manageable.

    I buy 10-16oz more often than 32 or 64.
I have a 16 fliptop that is robust enough to look like a conventional growler, but most places that offer the option either have their own cute little screw tops or mason jars. When a place doesn't list the option, I'll ask them if they'll fill my 16 and they either say "I'll fill anything" or look at me puzzled (which is much more infrequent... in which case I'll get a 32).

Well, there's not a ton of sealable 16oz options on the market. Like @zid said, if you can find a small swing top bottle (Grolsch) or a smaller Nalgene-type bottle with a screw top, those are likely your best options. Local laws permitting of course.

i used to be able to kill a 64 in 2 days, so I had no need for any other size, half a 64oz will last the night with no issue.

Then I scaled back to 1 beer a night because of rapid weight gain, so I would kill a 32 oz growler in 2 sessions. The issue was 16oz of beer in a 32 oz growler doesn't last very well overnight, so I went to amazon and purchased a few of these: https://www.amazon.com/Cobalt-Blue-...8&qid=1487177290&sr=8-7&keywords=16oz+growler

What I do is I take my 32 oz, pour out my one beer into a glass, then carefully pour the rest into these little 16ozers. With that method, there is almost no loss in carbonation AND you can wait a few nights in between finishing the rest of the 16oz.

I have one like this from Ellison as well. Big benefit being it uses a standard growler top, so they should have them on hand. I also have a mason jar style one from a bar, but then I need to remember my lid and ring etc. The mason jar style is super easy to clean and nice that it has a handle. I did get turned down at a brewery with the kind pictured, as they don't do 16oz fills yet.

I like my plastic bullet 32oz growler, but most people don't carry them so I need to keep the cap on hand. I need to get a standard glass 32oz one of these days. I like to keep them in the car for whenever I may need it. I have enough 64s as well, that I need to keep one in my office, because why not.

All I can think of is how much additional space this stuff takes up at the facility in question. Also. How inefficient and wasteful a 16 oz vessel is for holding beer that has been moved into it after being shuttled through a tap.

We've got a bottle shop here in Seattle called The Cannery that will do six packs of 12 oz cans of whatever they've got kegs of.

Also, I have a 16 oz growler that I got at a blueberry farm that I've often used for fills around Seattle.

500ml swing tops would work, at 16.9 oz.

I can safely say that my 16oz Growler holds 16oz of beer very efficiently.

I have often decanted left over beer into smaller bottles (usually 8 oz) without any loss or waste.

I'd be more inclined to go with something like this. I've often thought 16 oz growlers would be a good idea because there are times I want to try a few different beers but if I'm driving that's not really feasible if they are stronger IPAs and DIPAs. Not sure why more bars and breweries don't offer them unless it has something to do with wanting to keep the customer on the premises to spend more money.

As has already been mentioned, bring your own 16 ounce container (growler) and request they fill it. The worst that will happen is they will say no.

    Cheers!
